Steps not counting

My forerunner 635 is not counting my steps correctly. I did a 6 mile speed repeats run in 1hr on my treadmill, and it gave me 4000 steps ! When I do a 26 min 3 mile run, I usually get 7,000 ish steps. What the heck ?

If you held on the railing with the hand wearing the watch, then that's the reason. If the hand does not move, the watch has no chance detecting any steps. Next time either avoid holding on the railing, or wear the watch on the ankle.
