Autosync with Rouvy

Hi - like many others, I'm using Rouvy and Zwift a lot these days. While Zwift allows me to set up autosync with GarminConnect, Rouvy doesn't. I've asked Rouvy about this. Rouvy can autosync with TrainingPeaks, Strava, MMR, and others, but not Garmin. They tell us that is because Garmin won't allow it. Can you please tell me why not?

  • They tell us that is because Garmin won't allow it.

That's nonsense. Garmin offers an API to 3rd parties. All they need to do is applying for the access to the API. If not, just set up a free account at Strava, and sync to Rouvy from Garmin over Strava.

  • I am not sure; Something's fishy. Why would Rouvy go through the effort of implementing automatic uploads to ten other platforms (like Strava, TrainingPeaks, MapMyRide, etc.) but deliberately choose not to do the same for Garmin despite the fact that it is apparently "so" easy. They must be aware there are thousands of Garmin users out there.

BKool does not upload to Garmin cloud either and they state the same reason - that is Garmin does not give them the necessary API.

There is a workaround - Rouvy can send an email with my FIT file automatically after a workout or ride, and I can upload it to Garmin Connect manually, but that is so last century.

Probably because they are not willing to pay the license fees that others are paying, or they do not want to become official Garmin Partners for some reason, or they do not meet other conditions for acquiring the API access.

I'd tell that sycning it to Rouvy automatically over Strava, as I suggested, is much more comfortable

  • I am try to move away from Strava and have fond this issue unsolved for years! Garmin is picking winners and losers and it is getting old.

I think the your reasoning is partially correct in regards to not wanting to pay a licensing fee. I think the real twist is Garmin not wanting to other platforms licensing either. When you really think about things, it is a two way street. Yes, Garmin would be handing over more data. Other platforms have just as desirable data. Either, this is old and annoying!

  • The development, the maintenance, and the support of Garmin Connect cost a lot of money, and there is no reason why 3rd parties should use Garmin's system for their data without participating at least partially on the costs. You should go to complain to Rouvy, not here. Garmin offers the possibility to use their API, so you cannot blame them for not being open to 3rd parties.

  • I already have, years ago. As I said before, it is a two-way street. Offering an API is one thing. in 2020, Garmin should have an API that is more dev friendly. This is apparent when you look at what happened to tapiriik.

  • I can see my workouts on strava...how do you upload from strava to garmin? my garmin is connected to strava, so i see the swims and runs I do on garmin...

  • how do you upload from strava to garmin?

Only manually, by importing activity files. The only thing that is currently being pulled from Strava to GC are Courses. Well, you can also use Strava Segments in GC. No auto sync for activities.
