Beat my previous 5K pace time but PR not awarded

My previous 5K PR was 25:18 and i ran around 5.03 KM. Today i ran 5.63KM and beat my pace by a considerable amount but for some reason it hasn't recognised that i beat my previous 5k by a good few minutes. I've seen previous forums say you need to run considerably more than a 5K to get a new pr but it hasn't. Any ideas??

  • Normally, the watch detects the fastest 5km section, regardless how long the run is. Assuming your model supports the feature of detecting personal records of Running disciplines. Not all Garmin models do. If it did not work for some reason in your case, then your device may not support this feature (or perhaps there is a bug in the firmware version you use). In such case you can trim the Activity so that you keep the fastest 5km, cutting away the rest, and then set the activity as PR manually (an option in the cogwheel menu). Once the PR is assigned, you can reverse the trimming, keeping so the original lenght of the run.

Edit: Also please note that new PR's need to be approved on the page Personal Records, so first of all, have a look there

  • I have Fenix 6x pro so i would assume it has the PR feature. I checked my app and there was no "accept new PR". the idea of trimming, assigning and then reversing sounds perfect but im not entirely sure how to do that. Ill check garmin connect online and see if i can do it there. Thanks mate

Open the activity on https://connect.garmin.com/, and select Trim Activity in the menu after having clicked the cogwheel symbol in the upper right corner of the activity page. The rest is selfexplicatory

  • After going to "Trim" the distance drops from 5.63km to 4.90km so it would appear theres a small discrepency with the distance. Lost cause i suppose.

Reverse, and do it again, adding one second to the total time (switch from distance to time for that purpose, after setting the 5km). The number of GPS keypoints is limited, and it looks like you've hit one that was before the 5km mark
