Garmin Connect run not capturing steps or calories

Former Member

Hi Garmin/everyone

recently bought a Garmin 205 and loving it, but did a run today and it did not count towards steps or calories. appreciate its only 1 run but for this watch to be useful I need it to work every time. anyone any idea why this has happened, how I might retrospectively fix it, and how I avoid it in future? Bit annoying if I am honest.

Thanks

Terry

Do you really mean Garmin Forerunner 205? It is a 15 years old model !! As far as I can see in its specs and its user manual, I do not think it has the capability to count steps, it has no accelerometer, no HRM, and hence calculating the Calories is extremely unlikely too. You need a little bit more recent model for that. You can find pretty inexpensive devices even among models just a few years old, so why bothering with a two decades old watch?

    Sorry I meant a Garmin 235

  • OK, so are you telling the watch counts neither your steps, nor the burned Calories? Or just that they did not transfer from the watch to the Garmin Connect account? Can you share the concerned activity and post a link here?

    Thanks for trying to help....

so I did a run, it saved onto my watch (eventually), but even though I ran 10km the steps were at like 1,000, and calories also were really low. Normally when I run it is reflected in the steps being really high and my calories. and i cannot find a way of manually adding steps or calories for the day, and on the run there is no way of adding steps or calories. if its a one off then i will just put up with it, but worried that it might happen again, thanks again

also the steps and calories are not on the watch or the garmin connect app. the connect app reflects exactly what is on the watch. the problem is that the run did not seem to register against steps and calories anywhere

Please go to the Steps in Garmin Connect Web, scroll to the concerned day when it happened (see the navigation arrows up right), make a screenshot of the graph, and post it here. Also, open the concerned run on the Activities page, set its privacy to Public, and share the link here. Only if you post these details, it might be possible to tell what happened and why, and eventually how to prevent it.

  • Check that tracking wasn't inadvertently turned off in your settings. Start with Connect web, then GCM, and then the FR235 itself.
