Running 1300 calories, watch say 158

This should read over a 1000 calories

why does it only say 158

  • Have you looked at Garmin Connect web to see what it shows? Also, if you could post a link to your activity, we might be able to see what is going on.

  • This should read over a 1000 calories

The Calories burned during an activity are calculated on the basis of the difference between the immediate HR and the average resting HR. The average resting HR is best (and typically) measured during the night, when you sleep. If the device cannot measure your HR during the night, it attempts to get the resting HR during the day. It means if you wear the watch (or a HRM belt) only during the activity, the device sets the resting HR very high, and the difference HR-HRrest is much smaller than it should be, and hence also the Calories are strongly undercalculated.

In other words, you best wear the watch (or the HRM belt) during the night, and if not, then minimally during some periods of full rest (though the sleep is much better).

That's interesting because mine shows accurate calories burned yet I'm only wearing the watch during my training. However, that's only on some days i.e. 4 out of 7 days will be accurate, the other days it's all over the place as above.

What's also interesting is that Garmin moderators removed my previous comment slating the watch. I guess it's all about control and maintaining that positive image/propaganda. Sickening.

Are you referring to this post? I typically move posts to different forums to increase visibility. Never are they deleted unless they are violating the terms of use of the forums. As you can see there are plenty of posts that express dissatisfaction with Garmin. Never removed unless they are  clearly hostile towards individuals or groups.

Post some data - the HR graph for the concened activity with wrong calories, and the graph of average resting HR for that time (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/report/60/wellness/last_seven_days), so that we can see what's wrong and why.

No, it was a comment I made in this post. It seems to have disappeared completely.
