Virtual sessions via smart trainer fitness data not showing

I have noticed that data from virtual cycling sessions using an Elite Drivo smart trainer, are not incorporated into fitness monitoring when uploaded to Garmin Connect. The original uploaded data contain all information of power, HR, cadence, speed, elevation etc. as when training outdoors with my Edge 530. How come that Garmin connect cannot monitor fitness progress and metrics? Is a special interface or setting required ?

How exactly do you imagine Garmin Connect could know you use some smart trainer, and how should it read data from it, especially if it is not a Garmin device? Yes, you either need some kind of interface (check the manufacturer of your device to see whether they offer some), or you have to enter the data manually into Garmin Connect.

  • Data are uploaded by ZWIFT and BIGRINGVR, in the same way as from EDGE530. BIGRINGVR is importing the .gpx file manually, while ZWIFT uploads data automatically via link of the accounts.

I have no idea what all those devices or services are, but as long as you do not have any link to Garmin Connect, I do not know why you think it should somehow read the data from them automatically. Either you have to link the device to Garmin Connect through the API Garmin provides for 3rd parties, or you can import the data manually. Do not expect Garmin Connect can detect what 3rd party device you are using, when you did not set it up.

  • The only plausible explanation, is that fitness stats are being processed inside EDGE computers and not in Garmin.connect. This is a pitty, because I cannot track overall fitness when data are imported via other applications. This is a notable difference to Strava app. and a big disadvantage of Garmin. Hopefully they will update!

Yes, this is indeed the unfortunate concept of Garmin - practically all data like the Calories consumption, training effect, VO₂Max, records, etc, etc, are being processed directly on the devices, not on the server. Well, it has certain advantages too, but brings a bunch of problems. I am afraid that Garmin will not leave this concept easily, since it would require the complete redesign of all their system (and possibly also a redesign of the firmware of hundreds of models, unless they start a new product line incompatible with the old one). However, I doubt the way they currently use has any future.
