Sorry, your upload failed. Register your device, and try again

 Ive had multiple Garmin Fenix/Forerunner.

I took a break from running, backed up/exported my Garmin connect a/c but now I'm trying to get the data back into a new Garmin connect a/c

However many of the imports in GC tell me Sorry, your upload failed. Register your device, and try again.

I have registered a new dive - an old vivoactive but I can't upload most of my files. I wouldn't mind too much but there are MANY marathons in there with good times.  agggghhhh

From what I can see, about 1 in a hundred imports and the remainder give that error message.

All the files look the same to me

Any help appreciated

  • First of all, I do not understand at all why you do not simply use your orginal Garmin Connect account.

Well, if you really want to import old data into a new account, and are getting this kind of errors, then perhaps you need to link the original device with the GC account. Though, frankly told, I could import activities from other devices without problems, but if you have no device or no compatible device linked to the account, then perhaps it can really pose problems. You could also try passing the file through the Section Remover of  the FIT File Tools (without removing anything), or use the Device Changer - the tools fix any errors in broken FIT files, so perhaps it could help. The Device Change could perhaps help if you cannot link the original device to your new account, and the old files are not compatible with the new device.

  • The original account was deleted by me months ago. It can’t be restored. I now have loads of.fit and GPX files and many of them will not import into the new Garmin connect account.

  • In that case do what I suggested - link the original device with the account (if you still have it). If you do not have any, try lending one temporarily from a friend or from a local store. If it does not help, try passing the FIT files through the FIT File Tools.
