Wild calorie fluctuations?

So usually my calorie burn is right around 125-130 per mile with my 235, but every once in a while I’ll get something around 75-80 per mile. For example, I ran a 5k at about an 8:30 pace a few days ago and it said I burned 406, but my 5k this evening was 254. Is it a miscalculation or is there something I need to do health wise to keep my calorie burn up?

  • The pace is actually irrelevant as long as your device has a HRM. The calories are calculated according to your HR during the activitity - it is compared to your average resting HR, and the bigger the difference is, the more calories are considered burned. So I suspect that either your HR varied wildly between the concerned activities, or you do not wear the watch 24/7, so the resting HR cannot be measured consistently.
