For Ultrarunners: I want to allocate two different pairs of shoes to a single run

Hi Everyone,

I ran 100 a miler and ran in two different pairs of shoes.  When I select both shoes to "add gear", Garmin Connect adds the total mileage to each pair of shoes.  I want to allocate a specific mileage to each pair.  Thanks.  Happy running.

  • Currently not possible during a single activity. If it's something you feel is needed, you can submit a request via the Garmin Ideas page

  • I found a workaround for this problem.  When I ran my 8-Hour Ultra I changed shoes after four hours.  In order to get the correct distance on each pair of shoes I just created 2 manual activities (1 for the first 4 hours and one for the second 4 hours) after the race.  I made the Activity Type "Other" so that my running miles don't get doubled.  Then I put in the Time of Day, Time and Distance in for each leg of the race.  I set the Privacy to "Only Me", so nobody else sees the activities.  Then I assigned the correct pair of shoes to each of these activities.  Now my shoe mileage is correct.

Not the most elegant solution, but it works.

  • Another available workaround is using the multisport feature, splitting the ultratraii into several runs, while still keeping it as a single activity. You can then assign different gear for each section of the multisport activity, even if it contains several parts of the same sport. An added advantage is that in this way you can also record the transition time for changing the shoes.
