Adjusting Training Status, Load Focus and Exercise Load

Hoping there is a solution to a problem I occasionally get but suspect there probably isn't. Sometimes my chest strap read incorrectly for the first 4 or 5 minutes of a workout (typically raising HR above my max). When the workout is complete it gives an incorrect indication of what zone I was in and so leads to incorrect training load and status. I have tried taking the TCX file and adjusting the HR data, deleting the original, and uploading the corrected activity but my training status and load do not change (in fact the activity is completely removed from the Exercise Load page but not the Load Focus amounts).

Does anyone know how 'correct' an activity so the Load and status are corrected?

  • I am afraid t is not possible. And it is so, due to the system Garmin chose for their data handling - it is the device that is the main engine doing the most of the math. The server (your Garmin Connect account) does very little postprocessing, and you can change only very few of the values recorded by the watch. I do not have a device providing Training Status, Load Focus, and Exercise Load, so cannot experiment with it, but from what I know about it, those values fall under the category of data being calculated on the device, hence there is little chance of being able to change them. If you are a coder, you could download the FIT file SDK and analyze FIT files on the device - it is probable that the concerned data is in some of them, and that you could possibly hack it to your liking, but other than that, I suspect you cannot really change them.

    ,

not done yet Slight smile as says

you have to use the FIT file for better outcome at all...

you can find exercise load in the FIT file info here

suspect Garmin keeps track of which timeslice already has been uploaded to Garmin Connect Web

you can also find a recent failure trying to change those values

guess one needs a virgin activity, never been uploaded to GCW

  • Thanks for the replies. Looks like i need to go direct to Garmin to see if they can implement it. I guess it doesn't really matter as it won't effect how my body reacts to my training plan, just a little frustrating my watch tells me i'm over training!

    how old is your strap

make it wet before a workout...some use warm water....I like it with cold Slight smile

are you wearing clothes causing static charge ?

are you willing to share the fit file from that specific workout

we or yourself can have a look at the technical data with use of FitFileRepairTool (demo should do for a glance)

you can zip the fit file and upload here in the forum

or provide a link to it on a cloudstorage

    or send a private message

just a little frustrating my watch tells me i'm over training!

after time your focus moves from Garmin data back to the basics....

you get to know your own body by viewing Garmin's feedback data Slight smile

  • My strap is the original Garmin HR strap and I do wet it first; I wear a sweat wicking top so static could be a problem. I've tried to download a .fit from connect but there is no option to. I think as I have already adjusted the original and replaced it, it is only showing as TCX.

  • I am also experiencing the same in the early stages for a run. My HRM belt is starting to be a bit old, so I suspect it has to be changed (it's been used for a couple of years now). To prolong its life I try to make it a custom to apply a bit of electrode gel before the workout, that has so far worked out quite nice - no more false HR readings in the beginnig of the workout.

export original from GCW should to the trick

or as you say, you replaced it already with an adapted TCX version

look for the original fit file on your 'unknown' device in the ACTIVITY folder

, thank you for the solid advice Thumbsup

  • I've managed to get the original fit off the watch itself. I have also adjusted the HR data by converting to a TCX version. If you could convert this back to fit for me I will upload back to my watch and see if it adjusts anything (not hopeful as removing it from the watch has not changed any training status).
