Garmin Connect iOS app not reading weight data from *anything*

Hello all,

I searched this forum and the Internets far and wide, but I can't find the simple answer to that question.  I have a Withings scale that writes data to Apple Health, Strava, MyFitnessPal, etc. etc...  the Garmin app has full permission in Apple Health to read weight, but it never does (the Garmin app is also directly connected to Strava, MFP, and Apple Health).  At some point it worked, but as of a month or so ago, it simply stopped reading weight data.  Anyone know what I might be missing?  Thanks!

  • To respond to my own question to help anyone else who searches for this down the road, Garmin support confirmed today that the only two methods for getting your weight into Garmin Connect is their crap Index scale (I had one and returned it within a week) or manually entering it.  Too bad.

  • Has certainly been a topic. Works for some. I have a withings scale. It syncs to MFP using FitnessSyncer, then MFP syncs with Garmin Connect. It's been working with a few hiccups, which are typically remedied by disconnecting then connecting the MFP to Garmin connection.

  • Thanks brother, I’ll give it a shot.  It did used to work once upon a time, and then..  didn’t.

  • Withings and Garmin won't talk directly to each other. Also Withings and MFP won't talk directly to each other. However, FitnessSyncer acts as the middleman and links Withings with MFP. Then MFP syncs with Garmin. It's weird, but that's how it's been working for me. FitnessSyncer is free and has been flawless for several years. I just need to edit things occasionally whenever I change my passwords for Withings or MFP.

I've also had good luck using MFP, though I've seen posts about it being inconsistent for some. I use a FitBIt Aria scale that syncs weight to MFP which then syncs to Garmin Connect. I occasionally have issues but it seems to work at least 95% of the time. If Garmin ever comes out with an Index 2 that fixes some of the common bugs I may get one since the Aria is the last Fitbit product I still use.

  • There are a few free options but your mileage may vary and they only sync weight. Withings -> MFP -> Garmin, and Withings -> FitnessSyncer -> MFP -> Garmin. I personally used to use the MFP route but it kept breaking, and then MFP had a massive data breach.

My frustration led me to build a subscription app smartscalesync that sends all the metrics your withings scale captures (bone mass, muscle mass, water %, body fat %, and weight) directly to Garmin with no middleman storing your health data. The uploads happen within 5 minutes instead of once per day.
