Garmin Connect and MFP Continuing Sync Issues

It seems there are a string of posts dating back years on this topic and yet people are still having problems.

I had my own issues 3 months back and managed a manual fix to ensure that MFP calorie data was synchronising with Garmin Connect so I could see calories in/out on both apps. However, I now have a message on Garmin Connect (Web version) saying that "Unable to Sync: Right now we aren't able to sync with your MyFitnessPal account. It looks like something temporary, so please try again later".

Well it certainly doesn't seem temporary as it's been like this for days. I appear to be disconnected on MFP (via the Apps section) and when I click on the button to reconnect I end up back on the Calories section in Garmin Connect with the same blue error message. There doesn't seem to be an option to "disconnect" within Garmin Connect (not from what I can see anyway).

Anyone else having a similar issue? Frankly, I am sick to death of both Garmin and MFP for their crappy applications. Why bother creating hardware when the support for analysis online is flaky at best. Rant over...

  • Works all right on my end. When there is no link to disconnect MFP on the Calories screen of GC, then it means your GC and MFP accounts are not connected. Go to User Profile » Account Information and check the status of MFP at the bottom of the page in the "Applications" section. If the reconnecting to MFP from GC Web does not work, try doing it from GC Mobile (instructions), perhaps there could be a conflict wtih some privacy or security settings or applications on your computer, or on the router.

That's partly the problem. MFP does not appear on the Apps section of my Account Information - only Strava (which is another 3rd party I link to). Obviously it looks like there is no connection, but there must be something in the background that still links the two otherwise I wouldn't get the message. I don't use GC on a mobile - it's PC based for me only.

Wondering whether it is do with Microsoft Edge or cookies rather than the applications themselves.

  • And what happens when you try connecting both accounts from within the Calories In/Out page?

I can't - that's the issue. There is no option to reconnect the accounts within the Calories In/Out page. I only have the blue error message saying it is unable to sync. Beforehand there was at least a link which I could click to try and reconnect, but that is no longer there. As a result, I'm stuck in some weird limbo. Signing in and out of connects doesn't help either.

  • So you tell, there is no link at all under the Calories graph like in the image here? No Connect or Disconnect?

What I see is below. As you can see there is no option to connect or disconnect under the "Go to reports to see more data" link.

  • Check the Privacy Settings in your User Profile. Especially Data Storage & Processing, and Device Upload must be enabled. Also try linking MFP through Garmin Connect Mobile instead: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Re90uqqOnh30BtqHQYkoa8

My privacy settings are fine and the ones you've noted are all enabled. Unfortunately, bizarre as it may seem, I don't actually have a smart phone at the moment so I can't use Garmin Connect Mobile. I have to connect via my PC using Garmin Express.

IMHO, I'm starting to think that anyone who isn't using a dedicated phone app is being forgotten about (which in some ways I can understand due to their prevalence) - as a result, issues/bugs that may be PC specific or relating to browsers etc. are being deprioritized.

    Thanks for your help/suggestions anyway.

  • Your case is very likely described in the thread shown below. The problem is probably your browser blocking pop-up windows. Such window is necessary for completing the MFP linking. And since the connection was already initialized, and never completed, you do not see the link for connecting/deconnecting. You need to allow popup windows for the domain connect.garmin.com/ to make it work

Unforunately, I've seen this already and tried it. Doesn't work I'm afraid. Still get the same message.
