Setting FTP for EACH APPLIANCE seems kinda dumb...

Why is it that I have to set my FTP on my Fenix watch separately from the FTP on my Garmin Edge 830? This seems really silly as my FTP doesn't change depending on which appliance I use to record a ride!!
I could not figure out why my training effect was so low then I discovered that my (correct) FTP on the Garmin Edge was 265, but the FTP on my Fenix was 399 (I wish).

Please update this.  Power zones, HR zones, and FTP should be independent of how they're recorded

  • Moving this thread to Garmin Connect Web where it will likely get more attention.

  • This comes back down to Garmin’s rather nonsensical notion than users don’t do activities, devices do.

This manifests itself in other ways. Training Status and Training Load being different for each device, for example. Those two wouldn’t be a problem if their “Trueup” worked but it doesn’t. And even if it did, it would still leave issues such as the one raised by the OP.

No one from Garmin will acknowledge that this approach is idiotic, which suggests they won’t change it.

  • Yes, I have the same issue with training load and status with a Forerunner 935 and Edge 830. When one device says I am training in the optimal range, but the other says I am too high or too low, which do I believe? Why are the training load numbers always different?

I raised the issue with Garmin Support back in June. After several exchanges of messages Garmin support acknowledged the issue and said a fix would be forthcoming. I am still waiting. Just as I am waiting for a fix for incomplete wifi data transfer from the Edge 830 after a firmware update a couple of months ago. Sometimes I wonder if Garmin just pretend to acknowledge problems so they can stop us from bothering them. All rather disappointing.
