Why doesn't Garmin add any gear categories outside of running, cycling, and golfing?

I really only hike, climb, kayak, and just starting skiing, yet on the Connect account on the profile it seems like even something like climbing isn't popular enough to have as anything than an "other" category.  Profile-wise, okay, it's a social element and not a big deal.  But it ends up being an issue for the gear organisation when I can only put down running gear, cycling gear, and nothing else unless it's added as "other" (and then I can't add it as default gear for an "other" activity since Garmin thinks anything other than running/cycling/golfing is just "other").  I'd like to be able to better log my ski gear wear, and especially things like climbing stuff since it's definitely a safety issue, but Garmin doesn't seem to prioritise anyone outside of runners, cyclists, and golfers.  Why is that?

  • OK idea.

    .

and then I can't add it as default gear for an "other" activity since Garmin thinks anything other than running/cycling/golfing is just "other"

But even working default gear isn't useful if you use few gears - as categories are too large.

Example: if you use different shoes for trail and for road, then you still need to select gear manually after each run. Because you can only set default shoes for any Running. So no real priority for runners or cyclists. For now default gear feature is for beginners with one gear for common activity.  It's like test feature, not fully implemented. More advanced users can't really use it.

So it should be possible to set default gear for any activity's category.
