Logging Calories

It is clear that Garmin Connect and Cronometer integration simply is NOT going to happen.
Can you PLEASE make a manual entry option for calories, fat, protein, and carbs in Garmin Connect.
I also have a Renpho but I kind of get that since you sell a competing scale.  Sucks but whatever.

  • You are speaking to the user community here, so we won't help you much with this, aside from mentioning that Garmin has an API for 3rd parties, so anyone (including Cronometer) can send data to Garmin. I can also advise to submit any feature requests rather through https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/, there is perhaps a little bit higher probability that it will be seen by someone at Garmin.

  • ... and BTW, the manual entry of calories, fat, etc., is already possible through MyFitnessPal, where you can create a free acount and use it exclusively for that manual entry, if you do not like the rest.

  • Trux, I have replied to the Garmin feature request on this in the past and did again. Thanks for the reminder.  In order to log calories, fat, protein, and carbs on MFP one has to pay $45 a year. The free acount does allow you to log calories.

I already manually log weight on Garmin (because they won't integrate with Renpho like Fitibit does).  There is no arguing. I think the garmin is a better fitness product but fitbit is all over it in regards to integration with the other apps I use.

  • The free acount does allow you to log calories.

Of course it does. I use it since 6 months with no problems and pay nothing. I can even take photos of the barcodes on the packaging of the food I consume, adjust the volume, and it calculates and enters all the nutritional data automatically.

  • Trux.  I don't want to log all my food in two apps.  Cronometer is superior to MFP in many ways and very widely used. The only way it does the breakdown is if you enter your food.

  • The only way it does the breakdown is if you enter your food.

No, you are wrong again. If you do not want to enter the food, simply use the Quick Tools and enter the calories directly without entering any food. It is true you cannot enter there the fat/carbs/proteins with the free account, but those values are not used in Garmin Connect anywhere anyway, as far as I can find, or are they?

Cronometer is superior to MFP in many ways

If they are so superior, then why they don't write their interface to Garmin's Health API?

  • Well that is hepful if GC only uses calories (How would I know that since I am not connected?)

I have used both MFP for several years and Cronometer for several years and the Cronomater app Gold edition has more of the information that I, as a health consumer, want.  Just like I wanted a Garmin and not a fitbit because of the analytics.   I see others have also asked for this integration as well.

If you want to argue about it have at it.

  • If you want to argue about it have at it.

Not at all. If you prefere Cronometer, you have certainly your good reasons. But as I explained, it is Cronometer who has to make their job and plug into Garmin's API, if they want that their users can sync data with Garmin. However that is the topic of the other thread. In this thread you asked for the manual entry of calories into Garmin Connect. And my answer was that it already does exist. So either you really wanted to use the manual entry, and then you can, or you just wanted to complain, and then you of course can too, but we won't help you much in such case.

  • No I asked for direct manual entry into Garmin Connect in the same manner that you can enter weight and water manually. Rather than going to a third party app for that sole purpose. I am already active in Garmin Connect every day as it is.

And yes I did the other. way.  Concerning the API (and I did ask but never get a response from Garmin - maybe I will open a tech support ticket) it appears to me that to connect to MFP, the request initiates from Garmin and Not from MFP.

  • No I asked for direct manual entry into Garmin Connect

You are asking on a community user forum. All we can do is trying to help and suggesting available solutions, and that is exactly what we did. If you meant requesting a new function instead, you better ask Garmin directly: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/

    the request initiates from Garmin

I am afraid you are wrong. Garmin already did their job and developped their Heath API, so that any 3rd party can exchange data with them. Cronometer just needs to apply at https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/health-api-request/ and write their own part.
