2 pairs of shoes in equipment and default equipment

Hi.

I have 2 pair of running shoes, that I alternatively change, to give them rest.

For my running app, I have one of them set as default equipment.

I want to accurately track the distances that the shoes have taken, seeing that the distance in a long run can go up to 40K, while interval training usually keeps under 10K. So accurate tracking is required.

Is it possible for GC to ask me what equipment was used?

Or do I have to create 2 copies of my running app, 1 for each pair?

What is the best approach?

  • Currently the ONLY possible approach is to assign the shoes to the activity manually whenever a non-default pair is used. Creating a second running app won't make any difference.

  • The best approach is not to wait to be asked (because you won't be asked), but diligently take the initiative to change the gear used for an activity once it's been uploaded to Garmin Connect and available for review there, after each run for which you wore a pair of shoes that is not what you have instructed Garmin Connect to assign by default (upon initial upload of an activity record).

You can have your accurate tracking that way. I've been doing that for years, and I have not just two pairs of running shoes in active service but eight to worry about, so to speak. Luckily, I do about half of my runs wearing my 'default' pair that is assigned, and the effort to change the gear used on record is the same whether it's alternative pair #3 or #7 for the other 50% of my runs.

Forget about making that selection on the watch in any way, and forget about making the selection either prior to or during the run. You just have to do it afterwards, and you just have to remember to do it. Of course, there is no actual harm done if you delay changing the gear used on record until a week after the fact, if you have no trouble remembering the details for every run you did up to a week ago.

  • I think it's possible to have only 1 copy of the app track the distances that the shoes have taken, since you can just reset the distance whenever you use another pair. So what do you do with the distance taken from one shoe? You write a note somewhere, don't leave everything on the app's hands. This method, along with the app, will allow you to easily do everything you want with the shoes. I use two pairs of jordan 1 and the method I described above has worked wonderfully for me.

  • I've added a second pair of shoes for trail running but after my first use it displayed them but wouldn't let me select them. How do you do that?

  • Check if a date of an activity is after start date for shoes. It won't display them for older activities.
