How do you link and activity to a training plan?

Is there a way to connect an existing running activity from today to a scheduled training run on a training plan?

I went for a run this morning and it didn't register correctly. Now they aren't linked and saying I haven't done my training run. Other apps you can link on desktop.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

Dis you solve it? I have the same issue.

  • I tried to find the same but unfortunately I didnt find anything one way or another (activity-training, training-activity), so please anyone smarter?

  • well i just check with support and NO there is no possibility to link existing exercise with training plan

  • I'm having the same issue so I'm following your post just in case you get a response that works. Thanks

  • honestly i still did not get it why it is not possible :) from my point of view is not that complicated but they know better

  • Jazzed for starting half marathon training, i got my kid  bundled up, in stroller, and out the door. I did my benchmark run as I do any training plan workout. However, it is not registering as my benchmark. What's up, Garmin?!

  • This is, by far, one of the most ridiculous oversights on Garmin’s part. I completed my run, but forgot to start it in training mode so it will not let me continue on without completing the same run again. If every other app can make it happen, I see no reason why Garmin can’t do it as well.

You cannot link an activity to a Training Plan retrospectively because the workout has often different structure of data - like for example the laps. You have to take care that you actually do start the workout and not a plain run when you are starting the activity. If you do not see the workout even in My Workouts (after pressing the Menu button, getting so into the activity settings, and then Training » My Workout), then it means the workout was not sent to the watch from Garmin Connect, and you have to go back to the training plan and send the missing workouts to the watch.

Once on the watch, the workout usually starts automatically, but only on the day it was scheduled for. If you miss the schedule, you have to select the workout on the watch in Training » My Workouts, and start it from there, instead of just starting a plain-vanilla activity.

Although I do not know any such apps, there certainly may be some, but it in no way means there is no reason why Garmin can't do it. There may be plenty of reasons - from design reasons, technical ones, up to the fact that it may be so intentionally. However, nobody forces you to use their app - if you already have other apps that, as you tell, work to your satisfaction, then just work with them instead.

  • Just because someone feels this would be a great benefit does not mean they should use a different app.  I enjoy my Garmin watch and my Connect app, which is why I use them; however, yes, there are other apps that do automatically link activities to your active training plan. As others have mentioned, Connect does not always link properly, whether it starts automatically or you go through the training plan option, as I did this morning. In order to move forward with the training plan, I now have to repeat the workout. Yes, I do believe that is something Garmin should be able to remedy as the “top running watch” company.
