Corrupt fit file

Hi!

I rode Paris-Brest-Paris this year and unfortunately deleted the activity on my brand new Garmin Edge 830. I recovered the file and tried to repair it, because its file header changed and I cannot upload it to Garmin Connect. I used https://www.fitfiletools.com but every time I get an error “The upload appears to be malformed and we are unable to process it.”. Can you please help me? I uploaded the file to my Dropbox Account: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jf42g8xbdh0kdjd/2019-08-19-05-17-44.fit?dl=0 Let me now if you need more information. Thanks a lot!

Btw. I recored the whole ride of 1228 km without charging my device! I started at a battery level of 97% and after almost 47 hours of riding I arrived the finish with still 12% battery left. I disabled wifi, bluetooth, the map and did not use a track to follow... That so awesome! After a super disappointing Edge 820 you absolutely nailed it with the Edge 830. Awesome job guys!!

    congratulations finishing the trip

sad news, your file is a battle ground Slight smile

there is data in the file, but the definitions are missing to reconstruct the data records

did you alter the file you put on dropbox ?

I would do the scan once more

in your file there is data covering a 29h50'14" long period Wink, but without definition !

    from 19 aug '19 04h17'44"

    until 20 aug '19 10h07'58" with a file size of 4MB spanning 30 hours

the only fit file header in your file has a date label from 19 aug '19 23h00'00"

    happy & safe sporting

  • - not a lot of good news unfortunately as there was only 7secs worth of date that wasn't corrupted.  There is nothing further I can do to assist.

    cheers

    Hej guys!

Thanks for you replies! Do you have any idea if there is anything else I can do to recover the data from my edge? I did no do any long recording nor deleted anything after I recognised I lost the data... I tried several file recovery apps but not even all of them found the lost file. Is deleting an activity on the edge such a different progress than deleting a file on my mac? Its not really removing it physically bei zeroing the sectors on the edge, right? So I should not be a big deal to recover deleted files? I use less than 50% of the storage of my edge...

@OnlyTwo: I did not alter the data, but I did upload another file I found on my edge. You can find it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b8435iocovhst0w/2019-08-19-05-17-44.zip?dl=0 Maybe thats a bit better?

    Thanks a los guys!

Or do you have any idea if its possible to recover an activity which was already uploaded to Garmin Connect? Cause I already did the upload successfully but deleted it, cause the Strava sync did not work and I wanted to upload it again... Do you know if such records where deleted hard from the database or is there a chance that these were only "disabled"?

    Thanks!

    Hej guys!

    Thanks for you replies!

the recuva scan tool is a good program to recover lost data

the content of the latest file is identical with the first file from your dropbox

Or do you have any idea if its possible

    aha...erzähl mal Slight smile

how did you record  your rides during these days ?

did you record one file for the three days, or did you record them seperately ?

was it one file for the whole trip ?

when not, were they automatically uploaded through your phone to Garmin Connect ?

you have to contact Garmin for recovering data from Garmin Connect

but, do not set your hopes on it at all Wink

Unfortunately this tool did not find a single file while scanning the whole Edge...

I used only one file. Pushed stop and shut it down during breaks. I disabled the map, segments, all that fancy stuff und just used 3 screens with some values like speed etc...

I uploaded and deleted it two times on Garmin Connect via the iOS app cause of the problem with the Strava sync. The upload to Garmin Connect worked fine.

Yes, I wrote an E-Mail to Garmin some minutes ago. Hope they have good news. But to be honest I'm not really sure if I will ever get an answer...

Thanks! We rode in a group of three so I already have 2 tracks. Distance, time, speed are fine. Its just the missing data of my heart rate monitor and the power meter... :-/
