Progress Summary Error?

Hello,

Today a fellow Garmin user noticed that the average pace in Progress Summary Report Group by Week (and not only) is way off !!!!

I checked it also and for example this week I have done 23,08 km in 01:59:32 that is an average pace of 05:11. Garmin Connect says 05:21 !!!!

  • I reached out to Garmin as I had found the same. the progress summary report does not work. They said this in an email reply..

''I think it may have to do with how the numbers are displayed, when you look at the progress report, it shows Average Pace, now that is the average between all the included paces, so it wouldn't necessarily be the same pace when adding up the total time and distance. ''

I have sent them this reply just now. I'll keep you updated.

    So... to test your theory
My runs so far for this month total 44.81 miles, the progress report says this took 5:14:22, with an average pace of 07:08 according to the report, but when I calculate it using distance and time I get 07:01.
The 44.81 miles total made up of 10 runs with the paces 07:20, 05:56, 07:16, 07:35, 07:36, 07:16, 06:36, 06:29, 08:24, 07:31. When I calculate the average of these paces using the average formula on Microsoft excel, I get 07:12.
So, I'm sorry, but it seems you are mistaken, however the progress summary report finds its average pace, it is not in the way that you describe, and I stand by my word that it is giving the wrong figure.
  • I noticed the same thing. Would be nice to have an option to view all the average measures as weighted averages. There's no point in valuating a 2 km run and a 10 km run the same way by their pace when you view weekly numbers (Group by week).

I've found that looking at your weighted pace and weighted HR by month is a great way to see your progress.
