Manual way to fix/add Training Effect for corrupt activity to fix Training Status report?

My edge 530 crashed during a 100 mi mtb race, and the resulting Training Effect numbers look like a recovery ride (although HR/power/TSS/etc all seem fine). I'd like to either fix the existing values on the activity, or add a new activity to get the day's load closer to reality so the Training Status report reflects the super hard race.

Has anybody had success with either approach? Anybody had luck directly editing a fit file?

Thanks!

  • It’s 2022 and, having had this happen to me yesterday with a 2 month old Edge 530 (at 99km of a 100km training ride), I’m now reading on the forum that this issue has existed on multiple devices for years and Garmin has fixed the issue. I’ve been promised that the issue will be forwarded to engineering, but I get the feeling that the bizarre excuse “these calculations are done on the device and can’t be done later” will just continue to be used. Why training effect calculations aren’t saved in a crash in the same way that GPS, HR etc. are, or can’t be calculated by the device again (what else is it calculating from if not the same other numbers it’s recording?) is a mystery to me. Especially since the devices now can generate TE/TL from a FIT file from Zwift etc…

  • I did not test it myself, but saw the tip in another unrelated thread, so it may be worth of trying. If you do, please post the result here. Personally I would not put too much hope into that it really works, but why not trying it.

    1. Download the concerned activity fit file over the USB cable to you computer (or export it from Garmin Connect Web)
    2. Delete the fit file from the folder //GARMIN/Activity/
    3. Upload the fit file to the folder //GARMIN/NEWFILES/
    4. Turn OFF the Physio TrueUp feature in the device settings & sync
    5. Turn the Physio TrueUp feature back ON & sync
