Time in Heart Rate Zone

Former Member

Hi,

I am after some help..

I have a Fenix 5 and a Edge 3010 - when I record an activity (run or bike) either using the wrist heart rate or the garmin heart rate strap - the whole activty heart rate is recorded and displayed within gamin connect - which is great...... Shows the heart rate going up and down, maximum and minimum...

BUT when I look at the Time in Heart Rate Zone - it displays nothing in zone 5,4,3,2, and only a few seconds on zone 1.

When I check the heart rate zones in each device (using garmin connect) - they appear to be set correctly.  I have tried using % of Max, even using resting heart rate and lactate.

If i look at the activity on the device or in garmin connect -  Time in Zone does not match up.... My ride yesterday  of 1 hour 22 minutes shows 40 seconds in zone 1 only - nothing for zones 2,3,4 and 5.

And if i look at the heart rate details for the ride they show avg HR 111bpm,   Max HR 166bpm ........... so there must be time in zones 1,2, and 3.

My resting heart rate is 65, Max heart rate is 185

  • And if you look at your device and check what the zones are there, are they identical to what the GC web interface shows for them?

    • Yes - both the device and GC show exactly the same thing... It would appear that the data regarding heart rate zones is being taken from another field some where
  • Did you check your sport-specific HR zones (running, biking) in the device and GC? Also, did you try hovering over the zones in the Garmin Connect activity to see if they matched your settings?

  • That was cool - didn't know there was a tooltip for where the limits of the zone were. Thanks.

Hi, I have found that when I go into the Garmin Connect Activity and hover over the HR Zones... they are not the same as the ones in the running, cycling side..... Z1 shows 164 - 181, Z2 shows 182 - 198, Z3 shows 199 - 213, then Z4 shows 214 - 184   (this is not a typo) and Z5 shows > 185

This is why my HR Zones are not working correctly  !!!!!!

BUT how do I get this to look at the HR Zones setup in the device and the same as the ones I can see in Garmin Connect

You mentioned your HR zones in the Garmin Connect settings match those on your watch. Maybe you could just change the settings in GC, save your changes, then change them back? Could just be a weird one-time glitch.

You could also contact [email protected] if that doesn't work.

Hi, I have confirmed that the Garmin Connect Heart Rate Zones are set correctly and synced with the device.. The devices show the correct HR zones....

BUT when I complete and actively and review the details of the activity - in Garmin Connect, on the pc, And I hover over the time in HR zones.. they are showing different settings?

    i am confused

  • Sorry if the question is basic, but since it's so strange - you have entered your heartrate zones as per the activity type? Running, biking, etc? The devices and their user settings can have multiple heartrate zones depending on activity type, but I assume that you have set them correctly?

  • I have the same problem of the times in each zone not showing on either the Android app or the website.

I'm using a Garmin 520 Plus to record my cycling.

The info last showed on the 23rd July, but on my next ride on the 25th July, it is broken and continues to be.

I've just checked to see when the app was last updated. It was the 24th July with "improvements". Typical Garmin, one step forward, 2 steps back.

The info does show up on the Strava app/site without any problems.

  • I have the same problem. Have emailed Garmin today. Wonder if this difference also affect the training status metrics etc in which case all those elements will be out and of no use
