Is there a way to add notes to a course created on Garmin Connect?

It would be really nice to add notes to a course, such as "Good route for 4 x 30 minute tempo" or "Very steep climbing for VO2 efforts". Then I wouldn't have to keep a separate library of notes for my courses.

  • I agree, it would be nice - but I haven't found any way. Now I abbreviate as much as possible and keep it in the course name.

  • I agree too; I'd like to log running surfaces and other course relevant notes. Is there a "feature request" link somewhere?

  • Open the Course in armin Connect, click Edit in the Course menu (triple dot symbol in the right bottom conrer), click the desired point of the track, click Add Course Point in the menu (right above the Course window), and type the note into the title of the point.

  • With this variant, however, a maximum of 15 characters (including spaces) are permitted.
A suitable tile of the coures name is currently the most practical variant.

The watch's screen would not display much more anyway.

It depends. If you need just a pecission of the name, then it is indeed the best way, but if you need navigation notes inside the track, then it would not help at all.

On Garmin Connect a maximum of 26 characters are permitted.
On watch screen (Forerunner) a maximum of 18 characters are permitted.
    On course points a
maximum of 15 characters are permitted.

but if you need navigation notes inside the track,

But that was not the question.

  • But that was not the question.

Yes, I see now. Sorry, I misunderstood the query

  • Horses for courses I guess, pun intended.

Course title isn’t appropriate for me, for example my titles start with activity start location and key point of a circuit e.g." Zug to Rifferswil (15 miles)"

Because I do a lot of mixed terrain running I need to choose footwear wisely according to terrain (ever tried running with road shoes on a wet trail... yikes), so it’s useful to say mile 1-4 is paved, 4-8 is farm track, 8-12 is mountain path, you get the idea. So for me it looks like waypoints with start and end for terrain might work. And one course point at the start as a "summary".

Ultimately I was hoping to have a notes box like you have on the activity, but I think course points will work. I could continue using Komoot to plan the runs which also calculates automatically the terrain but I hoped to have all my courses in Garmin rather than having two sources for running courses.

Courses in Garmin could be so useful but at the moment seem quite limited, not only with notes, but inability to add photos. Add to that it seems really difficult to compare activities done over the same course, to see improvement, it’s really difficult.

I guess for now I will have to continue with Komoot and keep an eye on new functionality for Garmin courses. Maybe in a year or two they will catch up!
