Edge 500 - Incorrect FIT file Date

Dear Garmin Support

I have been a happy user of my Edge 500 for many years. However recently it has developed an intermittent problem.

Some FIT files are saved with dates of 22nd Aug 1999.

I have searched and searched for support and have not found a solution. I have tried FIT File Tools, I have hard restarted the device. My software is up to date.

I don't understand why some rides are recorded correctly and some are not. Attached is an example of a file recorded today with the date of 22nd Aug 1999.

How can I stop this problem recurring please?

BTW the Garmin support is not user friendly, hence posting this request for support to the Forum may not be the right place to ask for help...

So far it seems my best option is to buy a replacement that is not made by Garmin.

Stapely01 - there is no attached file in your post? You may have to change to the file extension from .fit to .zip to get it to correctly attach. A quirk of the new forum....

And note that for the most part, this forum offers peer-to-peer support. So on that note - does your device have a solid GPS lock before you press the start button?

I have the same issue. The device has the right date and time but the issue occurs when I upload it to Garmin connect. I can provide an example if required.

Please advise how I can fix this without having to buy a new one.

Hi Mike,

I have exactly the same issue. I was hoping you could attempt a repair of the file. The date partly recorded correctly and partly in 1999, but I have been unable to fix it.

I will follow your suggesting in future and not start before there is a GPS lock, I suspect this is why the file became corrupted.

Also, I am a little confused about the new forum. Could you advise where I should post these types of comments in future? It appears all the threads have gone and I can't figure out where to post queries about the Edge 500.

Reemo - it looks like it took 35secs for your device to obtain a GPS lock and therefore correct date and time data as well.

We are all confused about that new forum and there are postings all over the place. There was a note on the landing page the other that Garmin were working on getting the older device pages back... watch this space I guess.

I generally do a search for anything that has '.fit' in the title and go from there.

Give this file a try. Let me know if the start time is incorrect and I will sort that out.

How can I do this myself?

Since you advice I have waited for GPS lock and that seems to work well.

Stapely01 - you need a tool like the Fit File Repair Tool. There maybe sites out there that can do it but I find FFRT the most reliable.

I had tried the Strava fit file repair tool unsuccessfully.
