Sync alternatives to Myfitnesspal?

Hey all,

Is there any other diet tracking services that Garmin Connect integrates with, other than MyFitnessPal?

Reason I ask is because I bought a Forerunner 35 about a month ago, switching from a Fitbit Flex2. I used Fitbit's one app for activity AND food tracking. I understand that Garmin doesn't do food tracking, but instead has partnered with MFP.

While the Garmin portion of things (the watch and Connect service) has been great, I've been having an ongoing issues with the iOS MFP app sucking down battery (30-40% of my iPhone's battery). So I'm trying to look for an alternative food tracking service. The integration is really nice, though, w/ each being somewhat aware of the other.

Thanks.

Sort of. There are other food tracking platforms that can get data from Garmin Connect through their API. Mynetdiary is one of them that I'm aware of. However, as far as I know only MFP can sync back to Connect. So while other platforms can incorporate data from Connect to update your calorie goal for the day similar to how MFP does they won't then send the data on what you ate back to Connect like MFP.
  • Thanks Paul for the tip!

I had never heard of MyNetDiary.. Looks like they require you to subscribe to their Premium service in order to have direct to Garmin Connect syncing (which I'm not up for, right now). But, if you have Garmin sync w/ Apple Health, you can have MyNetDiary sync with Apple Health, at no cost...

I like the clean interface of MyNetDiary on the mobile app on iOS (no ads, that I've noticed!). Biggest downside is that the food database doesn't seem as robust as MyFitnessPal's...

  • With MFP changing their app to put their best feature (i.e., scanning barcodes) behind a paywall, I would love to see the Garmin Connect platform opened up to allow other calorie-tracking services to integrate with Garmin Connect, allowing calories to be imported into the platform.

  • Surely this can't be a technical issue... and one-way sync exists for others, it's just half a solution. What's the sitch, Garmin?

  • My guess is that it's an issue so far on the back burner that nobody actually knows what's going on.  The Android Connect app still shows the Under Armor logo on MFP and they sold it over a year ago.

  • This was my first thought when MFP announced this yesterday. I put up with the spammy interface and the malware-laden ads. This is the bridge too far.

I'm sure there’s some kind of exclusive deal but I hope this abrogates the terms. If there were at least one viable alternative to sync both ways with Garmin, I’d really welcome it.

  • Please add LoseIt as an alternative. LoseIt is awesome, already has the one-way connection, and doesn't suffer from the MFP UI bugs.

  • As well as posting here submit it as a feature request: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/. If enough of us do so maybe they'll make a change.

  • I think Cronometer is great too and should be considered as an alternative! The free tier is much more powerful than LoseIt, allowing a fully customizable meal plan (different styles of keto, different calculations for BMR and TDEE, etc) a complete panel with nutrients to guide you through your training. Cronometer is light years ahead of MFP and LoseIt.

If you pay the subscription for Cronometer, it even suggests foods that would complete your required nutrient panel for the day, which is something that has been requested for MFP for years and instead they keep removing features from the free tier.

  • Not familiar with that one but will definitely check it out. LoseIt just enhanced the intermittent fasting feature which I love.
