Add more generic, custom, and machine exercises

In Garmin Connect, there are VERY specific types of weight exercises - we need more generic ones.

Search for "Chest Press" and you get:

* Chest Press with Band
* Kettlebell Chest Press
* Swiss Ball Dumbbell Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press
* Single-arm Cable Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press

...but no plain old "Chest Press"!

Another one: "Back Extension" nets you:
* Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach
* GHD Back Extensions
* Weighted GHD Back Extensions
* Static Back Extension
* Single-leg Back Extension
* Weighted Static Back Extension
* Weighted Single-leg Back Extension
* Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach

...and no plain old "Back Extension"!

I would suggest this list, based on a typical "LifeFitness" circuit of 10 machines:

* Back Extension (tonnes of far too specific options, as listed above)
* Leg Extension (exists already)
* Seated Leg Curl (weighted leg curl exists)
* Seated Row ("weighted row" exists, as do more specifics)
* Chest Press ("Chest Press with Band" is the closest)
* Lateral Raise (exists)
* Biceps Curl ("Curl" is the closest)
* Triceps Extension (exists)
* Abdominal Crunch (only "Weighted Crunch" exists)

Perhaps others have suggestions for machine workouts that should exist - take a cruise around your gym and suggest ones that aren't already in Garmin Connect.

  • Yes. Please add the basics (if not the specifics). If I’m gonna take the time to list my exercises please make it more complete. “Seated chest press”… this is virtually in every gym, and not esoteric.  Please update

  • Im also a fan of the landmine attachment and do mostly landmine variants for my weightlifting.

    instead of having thousands of different exercises to choose from, perhaps we could have the possibilty to add descriptions or tags to each exercise.

    I.e «Benchpress». You can add a plain benchpress, or you could add tags «dumbell», «incline» etc.

    so less exercises, but add descriptive tags!

  • Currently, if you create a workout in Garmin Connect, you can only choose a name for the workout. Although the list is very long, some exercise names are not there.

    I would like to know if this feature will ever be implemented.

    Thank you.

    • I second this, it must be such an easy feature to add, even if it had a set character length in the field, some of the pre set exercises are 4/5 words already, thats plenty of flexibility.

      this is one of the things that lets it down IMO.

  • Hello, I would like to create a custom-made Workout for my Garmin Phēnix 6X Pro in the Garmin connect web interface, the problem is not all the exercises are available. Is there any way to add these or are there any resources on how to do this. This is regarding a strength training exercise.

    Best regards,
    Theo Niessen.

  • There is gym equipment missing from the list when searching for the machines following a workout. For example, the seated hip abduction in and seated hip abduction out. Is there a way to load moreThumbsup tone1 equipment into the app? I have a Fenix 7X Pro Thumbsup tone1

  • (Much) earlier version of the Garmin app allowed the user to type in an exercise name, if one did not exist in the database. No such flexibility now, and it seems a slow process to add more exercises to the list - and some exercise types, including popular ones, are not in the database. Could we have a separate page in the Forum for suggestions for such additions? I'd like to see:

    - landmine exercises, as there are none (landmine row; landmine squat; landmine thruster; landmine single-arm press; landmine rotation; landmine shoulder press);

    - more kettlebell exercises (kettlebell halo; kettlebell thrusters; kettlebell overhead carry);

    - more TRX exercises, there are only four currently in the TRX family (TRX chest press; TRX biceps curl; TRX plank; TRX pike; TRX side plank; TRX push pull weighted and bodyweight - see Jake Gyllenhall "Roadhouse workout");

    - toe touches;

    As well, I would like to suggest the ability to make some exercises your "favourites", because exercises I regularly do disappear from the "Recent" tab, even though I might do X exercise two-three times a week, such as barbell bench press, goblet squats, etc..

    Otherwise, I like the app, but searching for exercises I regularly do in the complete database is a pain in the a$$. Ditto a database which doesn't contain some popular exercises.

  • I recommend suggesting these ideas to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin

  • Currently, I am limited to select from a list that Garmin has when creating a custom workout. For my specific use case, I utilize a membership from a different app but want to make the workouts on the Garmin Connect App through the Web.

    The Problem: I don't see some of the exercises in Garmin that I want to use in my custom workout. Sometimes they aren't there, named different than what I would think. I have to know the exact exercise name. I sometimes have to put in dummy data just so I can create the workout - but then this messes up my tracker of what body I am working out.

    The Solution: Let us add a custom exercise. Not sure technically how it wants to be implemented, but this would be a HUGE time saver when planning out my workouts.

  • Would be nice if there were categories with small thumbnails like in the strong app too. Seems like things have many names so much easier to see an image and say yep that’s what I’m doing. Especially narrowed down by body part.
