Add more generic, custom, and machine exercises

In Garmin Connect, there are VERY specific types of weight exercises - we need more generic ones.

Search for "Chest Press" and you get:

* Chest Press with Band
* Kettlebell Chest Press
* Swiss Ball Dumbbell Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press
* Single-arm Cable Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press

...but no plain old "Chest Press"!

Another one: "Back Extension" nets you:
* Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach
* GHD Back Extensions
* Weighted GHD Back Extensions
* Static Back Extension
* Single-leg Back Extension
* Weighted Static Back Extension
* Weighted Single-leg Back Extension
* Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach

...and no plain old "Back Extension"!

I would suggest this list, based on a typical "LifeFitness" circuit of 10 machines:

* Back Extension (tonnes of far too specific options, as listed above)
* Leg Extension (exists already)
* Seated Leg Curl (weighted leg curl exists)
* Seated Row ("weighted row" exists, as do more specifics)
* Chest Press ("Chest Press with Band" is the closest)
* Lateral Raise (exists)
* Biceps Curl ("Curl" is the closest)
* Triceps Extension (exists)
* Abdominal Crunch (only "Weighted Crunch" exists)

Perhaps others have suggestions for machine workouts that should exist - take a cruise around your gym and suggest ones that aren't already in Garmin Connect.

  • 2023 still no chest press

  • There is no dumbbell skull crusher, dumbbell standing chest fly, dumbbell woodchop, standing dumbbell overhead tricep extension to name a few more I've been waiting on

  • Well that’s a surprise - not a good one!

    I’ve just bought a Garmin Epix Gen 2 to help me on my fitness journey. My initial thoughts are favourable and there’s a lot to like about this watch. I have recently joined a gym and was expecting to be easily able to track my activities. As a relative newbee, I was expecting to see all of the basic/fundamental exercises represented in the watch and also the generic weights machines that new starters are encouraged to use as they build up their strength and confidence. I was quite shocked to find out this is not the case. I am having to mis-categorise the exercises (such as chest machine, adductor machine, abductor machine are just a few examples) because they are not available in the current list. Yet you have a huge array of the more obscure exercises. To my mind, this is bad form and needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. It’s not difficult to add these to the list and it will help users support their fitness journeys. Or you could add the option to create a custom entry so we can do it for ourselves if you can’t/won’t. It’s a real shame as this is a real issue for me and I am considering returning my Epix as a result.

  • Its in the wording... chest press, abductor, adductor, tricep press...are there. dont need the use of the word machine.  To cross reference what some things might be vs what you know them as "terminollogy is diff per coach/gym/country.

    I've found this site helpful to check naming conventions.

  • Yup I do miss all the popular standard fitness machines. A chest press? Where is it? Also an illustration would massively help while putting together a custom workout.

  • Where are are the standard popular fitness machines? Indeed, I can't find a chest press. Also an illustration of the equipment/action while creating a custom workout would be very helpful. Also one should be able to filter on equipment category. Dumbbell, machine, bar, whatever. A bit disappointing.

  • Your linked site is exactly the kind of user interface I expected in Connect to find the right exercise and equipment. Garmin? Please take a look...:(

  • Garmin really has to improve the gui. It's a giant messy list. It needs illustrations, muscle groups, description and a good search. The machines in the gym have quite similar naming everywhere on its instructions. One would expect Garmin to makes these available and findable by both beginners and experts alike...

    Much room for improvement.

  • No it's not. Front raise is something else.
