Add more generic, custom, and machine exercises

In Garmin Connect, there are VERY specific types of weight exercises - we need more generic ones.

Search for "Chest Press" and you get:

* Chest Press with Band
* Kettlebell Chest Press
* Swiss Ball Dumbbell Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press
* Single-arm Cable Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press

...but no plain old "Chest Press"!

Another one: "Back Extension" nets you:
* Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach
* GHD Back Extensions
* Weighted GHD Back Extensions
* Static Back Extension
* Single-leg Back Extension
* Weighted Static Back Extension
* Weighted Single-leg Back Extension
* Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach

...and no plain old "Back Extension"!

I would suggest this list, based on a typical "LifeFitness" circuit of 10 machines:

* Back Extension (tonnes of far too specific options, as listed above)
* Leg Extension (exists already)
* Seated Leg Curl (weighted leg curl exists)
* Seated Row ("weighted row" exists, as do more specifics)
* Chest Press ("Chest Press with Band" is the closest)
* Lateral Raise (exists)
* Biceps Curl ("Curl" is the closest)
* Triceps Extension (exists)
* Abdominal Crunch (only "Weighted Crunch" exists)

Perhaps others have suggestions for machine workouts that should exist - take a cruise around your gym and suggest ones that aren't already in Garmin Connect.

  • Hi,

    during creating my strength workout, in every "workout" step I have to choose exercise (obligatory field) from existing limited list. This list is very huge and contains a lot of exercises, but really often specific exercise is missing there - for example - hollow body hold (not rock or/and roll).

    Can you consider to extend this list or provide feature to add private custom value to this list?

  • Requested several times before, without any result so far I'm afraid

    I think this has been requested at least a thousand times already and Garmin has never bothered trying to fix. I think we will need to make more noise as I am trying to revive threads that brought this up as what you're requesting can be the most valuable feature for anybody who wants to stay healthy.

    I'm kind of relieved to not be the only one frustrated with this. Was also searching for Hollow Body Hold—and simple Chin Ups (without weight or special grip). It seems to me they get the exact exercise titles from msn.com; and since some are missing there....

  • Can't help directly, but as a workaround, I simply take any generic exercise name I do not normally use, and enter my own name into the note. When then the watch shows me the generic name, I press the Enter button to read my note. Pretty simple and effiicient.

    This was two years ago....I just bought my vivoactive 4......and no change......I am looking for  the simple " Dumbell Front Shoulder Raises" a very common exercise and it is named that way.........but for some reason it is not there.

  • It's Called "Front Raise" in the app. You can add Reps and Weights against this exercise. It's a generic term to reduce unnecessary entries. eg. doesn't matter what you use for the weights. Plates, Kettlebell, Dumbbell or a any container that can hold water, sand at home.

  • Same issue here. I'm looking for:

    A) laying Pull-Ups (laying down on the floor and pull-up on the rings)
    B) Hand grip exercise with squeezers/hand grips

    Any idea if they may exist in a different name?

    Cheers

  • 2021: Still no chest press..

  • I've started doing calisthenics and there's loads of missing exercises that I'd like to include in my workouts e.g. Ring Support Hold, Pull-up Negative, Ring Dip Negative, Skin the cat etc. I think having a simple 'Other' with a name field would work well enough. It'd super-cool to have it learn the movement and then auto-rep later but I'm not greedy. Please Garmin, I've bought 4 of your watches so far simply because your software is so damn good - please continue to improve this great activity which helps differentiate you from the the likes of Apple, Fitbit and Samsung.
