Garmin can be frustrating - "lifeime updates"

Here's a water cooler topic - Garmin stops updating maps in a 60CSx for no real reason.

So I have a nuvi 660 which is 13 years old and has a lifetime subscription to map updates. I keep it updated regularly. It's lacking in internal memory but I can still update it as necessary and just did so with 2020 maps (not sure how it's still early 2019 and the maps are "2020" but whatever.) Big reveal - I don't need it since all our modern cars have built in nav units. The nuvi is merely a backup. In fact, I hardly use it anymore.

I also have a 60CSx which is definitely a classic handheld unit and, though a bit long in the tooth, still works perfectly. It's only 10 years old and I also have a lifetime subscription on it and I have regularly kept it up to date. It's also not able to hold the entire US in it but it's really for hiking and biking so it only needs local maps to meet my needs.

HOWEVER, now that I have downloaded updated maps for the nuvi, I am unable to acquire an unlock code and update the maps to the 60CSx because somehow Garmin has determined it's "end of life" and no longer can receive updates. I inquired at Garmin Support for what was going on and was told new maps are not supported. Tough $3!+. Random decision to stop supporting it even though it uses the same maps as the nuvi.

So a 13 year old device that is clearly ancient compared to new devices is still supported but a 10 year old device that still works perfectly is not? They both use the same maps! If the nuvi can take them, so can the 60CSx. The only thing they don't want to do is give me the unlock code to use them. NO, I have to buy a new device!

This is horrible customer service. Garmin clearly has a business model that requires users to buy new units in spite of the older ones still working fine. Purely a profit-motivated decision.

Garmin has lost me as a customer so I won't be buying any new units ever again. I'll use the 60CSx until it dies many years down the road and update it with custom 3rd-party maps instead in the meantime.

After all, I'm just one person. How much more money do they think they can make off me? Another $400 or so? That's not going to make or break the company so they aren't saving any money by not providing updated maps to me. They are just being jerks.
