Intensity minutes calculating differently?

I have an edge 1030, fenix 5s+, and vivosmart 4.

Since the week of the last update update I see to garmin connect April 5 for me), I cannot hit my intensity minutes. This is on garmin connect online and on the mobile app and all my devices. Today I did my first workout of the week. It was an hour and 52 minutes. I received 16 vigorous minutes (x2 for intensity) and 17 moderate minutes for a total of 49 minutes. In the past a similar workout would give me way more than that. Most of the workout was endurance zone 2 heart rate for 54 minutes. 29 minutes was zone 1. The rest was zone 3-5. It doesn’t seem right if it only gave me 49 minutes.

Can anyone explain to me. I don’t rely on intensity minutes solely. But it is nice to glance at yo make sure I’m putting in an adequate amount of work for the week. But the past 3 weeks I’ve been missing the goal. Now it seems to me that it is not my effort changing but perhaps it is being calculated wrong or differently now?

I’m going to try to include a photo of my heart rate zones. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1473768.png
  • warriormutz - The Edge 1030 does not calculate intensity minutes. So you would need to wear the Fenix 5S Plus or the vivosmart 4 during the cycling workout to get intensity minute credit for that activity.
  • Yes, the edge does not track intensity minutes. I did use the edge on the handlebars of my bike. But I wore my vivosmart 4 on my wrist.
  • Intensity minutes are added only if you sync the edge to Garmin Connect/bluetooth.  If you use WiFi it seems the intensity minutes aren't updated.  I biked yesterday with the Edge 530 and Have 76 intensity minutes from the hour ride.  Today I did not receive any intensity minutes after biking and synching the ride over wifi....I belive this is a bug, and the minutes are calculated in garmin connect not on Garmin web backend where they should be.

Actually, it is not a bug, it is the way it works. Intensity minutes are calculated on the device on the basis of the heart rate - according to the time spent in elevated HR zones. It is not calculated by the GCM app. As stated previously, Edge does not support the intensity minutes calculations. If you do not wear the watch during the workout on your wrist, you'd need a HRM supporting the feature, or a HRM broadcasting the HR to your watch (not to the Edge, since it cannot calculate the intensity minutes anyway).
