Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • I don't see any issues with the file, but would appreciate if someone can have a look at it....

I don't see any issue with it either, and GoldenCheetah can process it just fine. Have you been able to upload files to Connect from this Zwift device before?
  • Hiya,

Aw thanks anyway appreciate it. Worked ok at the time but when i went to upload it didnt work at all. Cant view the laps on the watch or anything. Just have to make sure i run fast again tomorrow
    Thanks again :D
  • To make sure your device is working properly, do a test activity (walk for 5 mins or so), check if the test activity is saved OK, and if it can be synced with Connect.

Side note: I don't know the FR610, but usually it's best to delete a corrupt FIT file from the device (this may work from the history on the device, otherwise connect it to a PC) Then turn it off and on, and record a test activity.

    fit file won't upload

When I recently synced to Garmin Connect from my VivoFit2 it didn't load data for one day.

I've used some other tools (http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/) to convert the fit files from another similar day into csv files. I then edited these to change the dates to the 'missing' day and converted them back to fit files.

Unfortunately I cannot upload them using garmin connect. I get the error: "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again."

    Can anyone help?
  • I can't look into the files right now, but are these activity files or monitor (step- and sleep data) files? Monitor files cannot be uploaded via the web interface to Connect, only directly from the device via Express or Connect Mobile, and putting modified monitor files back on the watch will not make them sync.

They are monitor files (primarily interested in steps). Is there any way of creating or recovering a lost day in Connect? I don't have an ANT and when I sync (via Mobile Connect / Bluetooth) the lost day does not come across.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks

No, not that I know of. The process of syncing activity data is set up in such a way that you can't alter any of the data by modifying files. And there is no going back in time, if you sync today, there is no way to sync data from yesterday.

To people who lose step challenges because they lost data due to no fault of their own, this is unfair - but it would also be unfair if people win challenges because they insert steps that they haven't taken. Furthermore this steps data is getting more and more a serious business (discounts on health insurances, corporate health plans etc), so keeping the data as "pure" as possible is important. As things stand now, when incorrect step data ends up in Connect, it can not be corrected (or deleted).

    Thanks Twinaxx.

I get your point about this being a more and more serious business. That of course adds to the importance of getting the correct data sync'd for those whom the health insurance stuff applies. I thought my VivoFit stored 30 days of data (perhaps my error) - does this mean that when it sync's that it deletes it from the device and saves it in connect?

On the Fenix 3, if you have Bluetooth on, and a phone connected, but no internet available (so nothing is synced) only about 3 days of activity data is stored on the Fenix 3. That was a few weeks ago, so with every GCM update or watch firmware update this number may have changed by now. I don't know the VivoFit, that may be different.

Health/insurance companies are likely to have ways to filter out bad data. Still, I'm not so sure about using step data for anything other than fun and games. After all, you are sharing a detailed, literally step-by-step record, of your daily life.

Edit: I am not sure that the monitor files are removed from the watch when it is synced, but a 3-day "buffer" (in my case, at the time under de conditions: BT on/GCM app connected/no internet) isn't a lot anyway. If you have Bluetooth off, a lot more monitor data is kept.
