Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • Three of my last four runs have created FIT files that will not load into Garmin Connect. They do load into Strava, SportTracks, fitfiletools.com and the FIT API tools from thisisant.com which makes me think that Garmin Connect has an issue rather than my watch. I guess there may be something wrong with the data in my files, but if other sites are able to cope with it surely Garmin Connect should too.

Garmin support got me to delete my ACTIVITIES folder on my watch but this did not solve the problem. I don't want to waste my time doing a factory reset if the problem is on the server end.

Has there been a recent increase in the number of rejected FIT files?

    hi MJSlingsby,

Do you still have an original file from one of the three that wouldn't upload to Garmin Connect? If so, attach it in a reply and I can take a look at it.

    cheers

  • Hi Mike

I've attached my last run. I'd be interested to hear what your software thinks about it.

I uploaded this file into SportTracks, exported it as a GPX and uploaded that into Garmin Connect without any problem. I just can't upload it directly into GC.

    Thanks

    hi Matt,

Give this file a try. I exported it without the Developer Data and was able to upload it to GC without any issues. If you have any developer apps installed on your device it might be worthwhile removing it and see if the situation improves.

    cheers

  • Hi Mike

Thanks for that, it does indeed now load. I assume by "Developer Data" you mean the RP_Power entries from Garmin's Running Power datafield?

I'll remove this for now. I've had it for months and only now has it started complaining. I'm not really making use of this Power thing anyway, so I'll probably not miss it.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

This is the first time I've had an issue with a Garmin FIT file. As it was a very nice hike on the Keppler track, I would love to get it restored. File was created with a Forerunner 910XT. I can view the history data on the Forerunner and that all looks ok. Many thanks for your kind help.

    hi DickL,

Unfortunately your file doesn't contain a single data record so there is nothing that can be done with the file.

    cheers

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your effort. Strange that the file is so corrupted. I can even view the maps of all laps on the 910.

I do believe that my battery was empty before I could stop recording or save the file so I've done that after the battery was charged again.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Mike,

I had the attached file only save a partial and couldn't get the kiesewetter tool to fix it. Would you mind having a look in access?

    Thank you much.
