Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks a lot Mike! All important data is in the file.
    Greetings,

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick response. That's basically what I was thinking, I tried importing it into Strava and it said that the 5 activities already existed which would lead you to believe that they were able to parse it correctly. Thanks for idiot checking me!

    Thanks,

    -Chris
  • Hi Mike,

Garmin support responded and says pieces of it have corruption. Are you able to detect that with your tool?

    Thanks,

    hi Chris,

I've pulled the file apart by session and then reconstructed it. Have been able to get it to load into GC although the map doesn't display correctly for the disciplines, the data for the discipline is displayed correctly.

As to what the issue was, I have no idea as FFRT didn't find anything wrong with the file - well certainly not something that it notified me about.

Give this file a try - don't forget to remove the previously uploaded file from GC first if it's still there.

    cheers

  • Hi Mike,

It seems that whatever you did fixed it! It looks like 12 seconds got shaved off and the total elevation gain changed (closer to race organizers numbers.) Also there's no heart rate numbers for the swim, perhaps since those are downloaded from the HRM they're kept elsewhere. So maybe some of it was corrupted? But this is way better than what I had before! There's some running dynamics information missing but that was missing before, I'm assuming the HRM got loose or moved, at that point in the race I don't really remember what was going on.

That all being said, this is awesome! Thanks for all of your help. If there's anything I can do to help you please let me know! I'm a daily user of a Forerunner 935 and active triathlete.

    Hi Chris,

Just been back thru and looked at the original .fit file and for the swim it is only showing the first 2 seconds and the last 3 seconds of HR data in the swim data so I am not sure how it got and avg. of 157bpm and max. of 164bpm from... I can't see where in the file the data from the HRM is stored - it well may be combined when the file is saved.

For your running dynamics, there are significant periods where the Vert Oscill / Ratio, Stance Time and GCT Balance data just weren't recorded - it took almost 50mins for the first lot of data to be recorded and then approx 6.5hrs before the next lot of data was recorded. It then recorded data for approx 53mins before another large gap of approx 3hrs20min of no data before recording data till the end of your run. At that stage of the event - I'm not surprised you couldn't remember what was going on!!!

    cheers

    hi Smiggin,

The Fit File Repair Tool reports that your .fit file is 100% corrupt. There is nothing I can do to recover your data.

    cheers

  • Ciao Kiwimtnbkr, could you please have a look to my .fit file from my Edge 1030? https://www.dropbox.com/s/lcdt8wm0om5geqm/2018-01-29-18-09-42.fit?dl=0
It won't automatically import to GCM and Strava, and if I try to manually import, it says the file has problems. Thanks a lot!
    Bye!
