Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • The problem appears to be that the exported MONITOR files from Garmin Connect are empty, contain no data?

That is strange. I just checked, "export original" on the daily summary page results in a zip file with a number of FIT files that do contain data (steps, heartrate, activity types). Must say, it is data from a month ago, and I have nothing more recent in Connect. Do your exported monitor files contain anything? A file header? Or are they 0 bytes?

When I click on "Activity Tracking" I get several boxes of data one of which is "Steps". Those are the Monitor files recorded by my VivoActive as a treadmill activity, no GPS. I do that because I wear the VA all day in and out of the car and do not want distances to include driving. I just want steps and distance while actually walking. Those files viewed on GC have distance, avg speed and total steps. When I click the gear "Export Original" I get a ZIP file with 3 FIT files and none of them contain any data, only header date and time.

    File help?

I've got a corrupted record that my garmin keeps trying to download.

I've just discovered some of these fit-fix programs. I tried the "Garmin Online Fit Repair Tool", but it didn't produce a usable result - the (swim) interval data gets corrupted in this 'fixed' file.

I've downloaded the FitFileRepairTool, but for the life of me can't seem to get it to install on my computer.

Could someone kindly take a look at this file for me and see if it's fixable?

    Many thanks.

    Hello LPIttenger,

Easy to fix but I need more info. Pool Length. Meters or Yards. Time Zone and actual time of day you did the swimming.

    Really? That'd be great. :)

Pool length was 25 yards. Timezone EST and time of day was probably roughly 3:15 pm. (I'm not too fussed over the exact time of day.)

    thanks!!

    Hello LPIttenger,

The file date was Nov 8 at 7:31pm. I took a guess and changed it to last Sat Dec 5 at 3:31pm. The data was recorded as "running" which screwed up the lap numbering and lap type. There were no Rest laps. Based on the lap numbering and lap times I took a guess that you swam 500 yards then 11-100yard laps then a final 500 yards with approx 1 minute rests in between for a total 2100 yards. If that is incorrect then tell me what you want and the day you want if it matters.

    Thanks so much!

The sets were actually 500 yards, then 11 repeats of 50,100, then one more 50, then one more 500, for a total of 2700.

    So: 500 - 50 - 100 - 50 - 100 - 50 ... - 100 - 50 - 500

Rests should have been between 60-90 second after the first 500 and before the last 500, about 30 seconds after the other 50s and about 45 seconds after the 100s. (They do always seem to get longer, though, as I get later into the routine! :) )

It was actually back on Nov 8th that this messed up data occurred. I was just going to ignore that faulty session in my graphs until I realized that the watch kept downloading the data into new copies onto my laptop. So now I'm hoping if I upload a fixed file on that date to Garmin, this will stop.

If I could impose on you one more time to sort out the file accordingly, I'd be most grateful!

    -LP

    Hello LPIttenger,

Somehow the data got recorded without any "Rest" laps and there is no extra time in any of the existing laps?? The FFRT can split pieces out of laps that have extra time but it cannot add time.
On the last fix I changed the existing 50's to a Rest lap which shortened the entire event.
This time I left everything just as it was recorded and the distance comes out correct but there are no "Rest" laps.

That's got it! Thanks! :) ... I'm not worried by the loss of 'rest' data.

    I appreciate all your help!

Now all I have to do is figure out why my little garmin stick is suddenly no longer getting recognized by the computer, preventing me from uploading more data!

    :(

This time I left everything just as it was recorded and the distance comes out correct but there are no "Rest" laps.
