Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

    Hello Glenn,

When the 510 froze it corrupted the headers and erased the calories. I added calories based on the generic formula Miles x 40 = Calories. Also your HR monitor only recorded HR for the first 55 minutes (13mi) so overall it might not be very accurate.
Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

  • Possible to repair recovered .fit/.bak file?

I stopped my Edge 520 in the middle of a ride to select a new Course for navigation. Unfortunately the firmware update from 7.20 to 8.00 got triggered and my ride wasn't properly saved:( I connected to the device via USB and found the file TPT_BACKUP_FILE_108.bak directly under the Garmin folder. I also found the file 2016-10-29-10-18-29.fit under the Activities folder, after running Active@ UNDELETE. Unfortunately neither file will upload to Strava or Garming Connect:(

Based on the file naming convention, ride did start around 10:18am, and file modification date/time of 1:16pm, which was about when the Edge updated firmware, this has to be the missing activity recording. Not sure what the other .bak file is, but it also has file modification date/time at 1:16pm so could be related.

I already tried repair at http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ No luck:(

I would be hugely disappointed if I lost over half of my ride:( Can anyone help?

    Hello Charles,

BAK files are not backup files of your ride. They can be opened with Notepad++ and contain gibberish
The FIT file did contain your entire ride along with a corrupt date from 1980 somewhere in the middle.
So....here ya go. Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.
  • Good to know that as a last ditch effort it's not the .bak file but rather the unsaved or "deleted" .fit file to look for, even with an undelete utility.

Thanks for the help! What's very strange is that the fixed file actually contains the first and last part of the ride. I'm not sure how that's possible, for the .fit file to contain the first part of the ride, pre-firmware-update, and the last part, post-firmware-update, and not the middle. Especially when the last modified time on that "deleted" .fit file corresponded to point of firmware update.

    Hello Charles,

What is missing from the middle?
Looking at the data and the map and the distances, I saw a 2 mile distance spread between sensor and GPS distances while in the park but it looked like a gradual spread caused by the very twisty trail.
