Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Strava tells me my .fit file has "bad time data" and though unusable there, they suggest I can upload it to Garmin Connect, then export a .tcx, which they say can be repaired. Well, I cannot actually upload the file to GC, as it seems to just hang up and not complete the process. I see there is a repair tool on this forum, but I am on a Mac. Hoping I can get assistance repairing my file in to a recoverable format? Am also curious to understand the cause of this and how to prevent in the future, if it's something I can control.

    Thanks!

Would someone mind taking a look at this file? It uploaded to trainingpeaks just fine but Strava said 'not an activity' and GoldenCheetah crashes when loading it!

    FIT file

    Thank you I appreciate it

    hi Rakhmaninoff,

Fit File Repair Tool reports that your file is 100% corrupt as can be seen in this pic. Your timestamps jump from 1991 thru to 2029. There is nothing that can be repaired or saved.

    cheers

Thanks for the help Mike I appreciate your time. Any clue why trainingpeaks was able to work with it and show accurate data?

Here is the file downloaded from trainingpeaks, perhaps it's different than the Garmins file?

    hi cdbrandt,

Fit File Repair Tool reported that your recording ended abruptly and without the expected summary records and that probably data records at the end of the recording are missing. FFRT also reported that you had some corrupted data at the very end of your file as can be seen in this pic.

This file contains what I have been able to recover.

    cheers

    Trainingpeaks fit file

    hi Rakhmaninoff,

I didn't have any better luck with the Training Peaks file - it still showed as massively corrupted in FFRT. I have messaged the developer and asked that he take a look and see if he can work out what is happening.

    cheers

Can somebody check the file? Thank you I appreciate it.

    hi Tomka85,

Fit File Repair Tool reported that your session ended abruptly and that data records at the end of the recording are probably missing. There is only 0.58kms worth of data values recorded in the .fit file.

I've seen this on a number of occasions when people have pressed the stop button and then powered down their unit (or just simply, because they are using Auto Pause, powered their unit down or allowed it to auto-shutdown), instead of pressing stop, followed by pressing and holding the lap/reset button for 5secs which ensures that all the data values are properly recorded to the .fit file and then powering down their unit. The Event Log from the .fit file supports this as there is no 'Stop All' command recorded. If you followed the correct procedure for saving a file then I am not sure what has happened sorry.

Give this file a try - note that it still only contains the 0.58km worth of data values.

    cheers

    Hi,
I have a FIT file that resulted in 0 bytes. Can this be repaired? I can't attach it since there's no info. Although looking at the file info, the created and modified times are correct and correspond with when the ride started and ended.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Oh booo. Bummer way to start the new year.

Any idea what causes that? I shut off the unit the same way as always. This has happened a couple times before. I reset regularly as well.

    Thanks.
