Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Former Member
Former Member

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Amazing, thanks mate. Unfortunately I don't have access to a Windows machine.

  • Some would say you're lucky.Grin At any rate, some of the links provided do not require a Windows PC. For your FIT file, I only tried FFRT (uses Microsoft Access Database software), so not sure.

Would it be possible to fix this file please?  I tried the Mac options without any success so far.  Much appreciated!ABE93912.FIT.zip

  • Former Member, I see you have the often problematic Forerunner 35.Slight smile

This should work for you - ABE93912-fixed.zip

Unzip the file then import into Garmin Connect using the import data page.

    Repaired using FFRT.

Forerunner models 25, 30, and 35, with their limited storage capacity, seem to be susceptible to these problems. It's suggested to regularly clean out the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space on a Garmin Fitness Device

Nevermind, I managed to convert it to GPX, which uploaded to strava but not garmin. Then I exported the GPX again from strava and that was able to upload to garmin for some reason.  Seems like most or all of the data is there.  Phew!

Ah yes thank you!!  This file seems to be more full than my attempt.  Much appreciated!

Hi guys, looks like there's been good luck in this thread thanks to some wonderful helpers. I recently did 1,050km over 4 days on MTB for charity and my last 225km ride was deleted entirely by either my Garmin, Express or Connect! I managed to recover a corrupted file, looks like there's some OK data in there via Fit File Repair Tool but I have no idea what I'm doing and can't afford a license :(

Is anyone able to review and repair whatever is salvageable? My eternal thanks in advance and a beer in person, should we ever meet (Perth, WA)2020-11-14-06-54-51.zip

    • Former Member, lots going on with this. Could you tell me the starting and ending date and time? The timestamps jump all over the place.

      • start date/time at 11/14/2020 6:54:51 AM (UTC +8)
      • end date/time 11/14/2020 12:09:49 PM (UTC +8
      • Big chunk in the middle where it goes back in time to the 13th.

Oh wow, that's crazy. I do wonder if it's possible my "undelete" work has actually mixed two files :/

Start time seems approximately correct for when I got out the door in the morning, correct date. Time the garmin would have turned off should have been ~6PM GMT +8 though on 11/14

That end time might coincide with an earlier power off if I bumped Start/Stop while I was getting water at a shelter on the trail, would have been long enough for it to auto power off. I don't remember this happening for certain.

On the 13th there was also a bit of a malfunction, the Garmin reset itself and Strava drew a ~50km straight line segment there (that was a 330km ride).File seemed otherwise OK but I wonder if it was related.

      Thanks.

    • This should be a one-way trip, Walpole to somewhere around Scotsdale. Correct?

I removed all timestamps from the 13th, leaving a valid FIT file - 2020-11-14-06-54-51-fixed.zip

There is nothing after 11/14/2020 12:09:49 PM (GMT +8)
