Personal Records Reset by Connect

Hi - I recently noticed that my longest distance ride personal record was marked up against the wrong ride with a shorter distance, so I searched for my longest ride and Garmin Connect allows you to select THAT ride as the new personal record. They were both some time ago and I hadn't noticed but I set it anyway and that was that.

Couple of days later I went for a relatively slow run and afterwards it told me that I had set a new KM and Mile Personal Records and didn't even give me the option to accept them as new records. Both are WAY off my PBs. I can't be certain if it was the restting of my other record (although it's the first and only time I've done it) but it seems that Connect has reset both my 1KM and 1 Mile PBs as a result of me resetting one specific other PB and I'm livid about it. I can find what I think is my previous old PBs from Strava but I have no idea how to select and set the same distances from the ame run from Garming to reset the values on my watch / account profile - I tried setting PB from the selected run and it stupidly gave me the whole time for a 5KM run as my fastest 1KM time (20.41 minutes for 1KM where the fastest 1KM within that run was about 3.45.

I mean, really, does anyone actually test this stuff? Why would it assign the whole time for a 5KM when I try to select it my fastest 1 or Mile (same run actually)? For me, this, for me is a massive screw up - how can I restore my PBs? For some reason, no other PBs seem to have been affected.
  • Hi. I have observed same thing happening. Cannot confirm but have suspicion the resets are due to software changes (upgrades) in GC service platform. Some personal data gets erased. Annoying as hell.

  • Same thing just happened to me.

  • Since the records are being detected by your Garmin device in real time, when you are recording the activity, the device uses a locally stored table of records (not necessarily identical to the one in Garmin Connect), in order to mark better performances as personal records.

It means if you for example do the master reset of the watch with deleting all data, or a firmware update goes wrong, the records table gets deleted too, so the watch has to start anew from zero, unless you go to the Personal Records page in Garmin Connect, and use the function Send to Device. This will push your PRs back to the device again.

You have to do the same function anytime you edit or assign any record manually in Garmin Connect, too. The PRs are not being synced automatically. Don't ask me why - I have no idea, and personally think it is an omission on the side of the developers. Feel free to suggest them to include the syncing of the PR table to the standard syncing routine (Share Ideas | Garmin).
