CSV Import

Hi

I know I am not the first to raise this as I have already searched the forums and looked at a number of posts concerning this issue. I have eight years of data from MapMyRun (account is now closed and deleted) exported as a CSV file - it doesn't contain any mapping data so conversion to tcx or gpx is not required. I'm not exactly a rookie when it comes to IT and I know that data import is a notoriously tricky issue and I also don't entirely blame Garmin for the fact that I cannot get it to work so far.

What I have done is created some workouts in Garmin Connect (GC) and then exported these as a CSV file - this provides me with a base template to work with, because usually for a CSV import to work, the column headings, field formatting and data has to match. I have then copied all my data from the MMR file into the relevant columns in the GC export and I have defaulted all the fields I don't want to zero (or 00:00) as the case may be. I have also ensured categories of workouts have been edited to match with those available in Garmin Connect.

The only problem is the date field, as the GC field format is a custom format of DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS and I know I have duplicates as I have dates for my workouts but no start times (thanks MMR - top work there). To get round this I ensured the top four values only were unique rows and used this as a test file.

However, even after all this I am still receiving the error message:

An error occurred with your upload. Please try again.

I have also tried using date only in the import field (i.e. deleting the time stamp) but this also returns the same error. I can't really think of anything else to try - as I said I don't expect this to work by magic but I had rather hoped that by using CG to create a base CSV template and manually mapping my data to that it might have stood a chance.

Has anybody else managed to crack this? All pointers gratefully received.

Regards and thanks in anticipation

Andy

  • I was not able to import into Golden Cheetah.

  • To import workouts, I found that the only way to do it is with .gpx files. I am talking about running and biking here... although the activity gets to Garmin Connect as "Uncategorized" meaning that it will not recognize if it was a run or biking.

However, I managed to import my weight data from Samsung health to Gamin. You need to recreate the following format on excel (without the " ")and save it as .csv file. Remember to format all the cells in excel as text, this means you will need to find a way to add "0" before days 1-9 and the same for the months from January to September. Once you've saved that file, go to your explorer and right click the file and open with the Notepad. You will notice some commas (,) after the word Body, delete those and save and then Garmin will accept your file. A funny thing that happened to me was that Garmin was takin 01-01-2019 (January 1st 2019) and registering it as December 31st, 2018. I tried a couple of times with only one or two days of data and realized it was registering the dates as the day before at 8:00:00 PM. No idea why. I used excel to format all my dates one day ahead, saved in excel, opened it on Notepad, get rid of the commas next to the word Body, and it worked perfectly. I uploaded two years of weight, BMI and %fat.

    Body

    Date,Weight,BMI,Fat

    "01-01-2019","70.1","0","0"

    "02-01-2019","70.1","0","0"

    "03-01-2019","70.1","0","0"

I am having trouble however to import Steps, Calories Burned, etc. data. I am following the same process and the data get accepted but it's not showing in Garmin Connect. Maybe I need to wait some more

What are you trying to import to Golden Cheetah and from where? For me, it automatically syncs all my activities from Strava. I could then export them all as .fit. Sorry for the late reply but I hope this helps.
