Yes please!!!! Pool PRs are only mildly interesting when all races are in open water…
Personally I find little sense in logging records for OW Swimming. I regularly swim the same distance, but depending on the weather, wind, waves, and currents, I can have the time varying from the half to the triple of the average time. So having the fastest time logged bears no meaningful information.
Knowing my PR will let me know where I arrived and push me to improve.
Weather (or even health) conditions will impact on results of any kind of activity, but this doesn't matter if I have a PR I can get and overtake with training.
In case of excess of positive waves or wind (running) which caused too high performances, I can delete the PR, so I don't see the point. Notes can be tracked to recall if needed, too.
Anyway, I commonly swim similar distances in quiet conditions and I'd like to have the results registered as meaningful for me
Honestly, it's not about how much sense you find, but about other people's willingness and needs. Ignoring the fact I do not have a pool to swim and I only can swim in the sea, running on a non-completely flat surface should imply the same problem but it doesn't stop Garming recording time and distance as PR.
I would also appreciate Garming implementing the possibility of setting up personal records. I'm preparing myself to pass the firefighter tests in my county having to run 3000m in 12minites or 60m in 8,8 seconds. Some other counties, here in Spain, have different requirements, for example, running 1,5k in 5min or 100m in 14sec. Thus, it'll be quite convenient for me to know my marks for 3k instead of knowing my 5k records.
Thanks in advanced.
