Stryd / Garmin Connect nonsensical data limitations

Is anyone from Garmin prepared to explain the logic behind the fact that if I capture an activity using another manufacturers device (say, an Apple Watch) and a Stryd footpod, then import that activity into Garmin Connect, I have available the excellent analysis and summaries through' Running Dynamics' within Garmin Connect for Ground Contact Time, Vertical Oscililation, etc.

But...if I pair the Stryd to a Fenix 5 Plus and record my run with that then Garmin does not allow me to see any of that analysis or Running Dynamic summary reporting.

I'd love to know the throught process behind this. I can't believe Garmin would be actively trying to discourage Connect users from buying their flagship devices, but that is exactly what this nonsense does.

Just to illustrate my point. Two screenshots from Garmin Connect below. 1 for an activity recorded using an Apple Watch, then the .fit file downloaded and imported into Garmin Connect - full Running Dynamics analysis. The other is an activity captured using the Fenix 5 Plus and the Stryd; negligible Running Dynamics analysis.

This makes no sense for either the user or Garmin's revenue. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1446233.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1446234.jpg
  • Sorry, I think you misunderstand me....

I understand HOW the limitation on writing to the native fields is imposed (you’ll notice the quote you posted is mine), it’s WHY Garmin impose that limitation that I am looking for an explanation for.

Also, I understand the idea has already been submitted to them and that the IQ app developers have requested it also. But given that the limitation remains in place, clearly they don’t want to enable it, and I’d love to understand the logic.
  • There are plenty of Garmin employees on this forum - and they're fairly quick to reply to correct people when they're wrong about something - but have no comment to offer on this issue?
  • Garmin Are you seriously try to tell customers (potential and current) that you would prefer they used other devices, such as the Apple Watch, to record activities for analysis in Garmin Connect?
  • I agree, this makes no sense.
I've been using Polar before and the merged fit files, imported to Garmin Connect, show more useful data than data collected by the IQ app.
It is clearly possible to display such statistics.. why Garmin does not allow it is beyond me.
