Garmin connect: exporting to GPX is not working

Hi all,

I have issues with exporting activities to GPX. When I click on "Save as GPX", I just see "waiting for garmin connect" in chrome status bar for a few seconds, then nothing happens. Export to TCX and original works fine. Looks like issue appears only with longer activities. I tried with two 20+ hour activities and it didn't work. With a 10k it works fine.

Tried to log off and login again, tried in IE. Nothing helps.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

  • My longest activity is around 11 hours and it exports fine. I suspect you've hit some sort of limitation. If you can post a link to the activity, maybe we can try it.
  • I'm sure I'm not the only one who runs 100 miles. :) And I'm sure I was able to export longer activities before.

  • Seems to be working for me. However, since it's not my account, my only options are to "send to device" or "save as course." I chose the latter and saved the course under my course listings. From there I was able to download the course as a gpx file - DUT2018.
  • Ohh man. How come I didn't remember to do that. Thanks for the help.

    I'm still wondering if anyone else has the same issue with longer activities?
  • I have the same problem, with a short hike of 7 hours 14km... I started this month. Last hike also was difficult to export gpx. It finally worked after several attempts and another day. This time again it does not work and I tried Firefox, IE, reboot PC.... nothing does it... I tried the "save as course" and download that gpx and it worked but the dates start at  course creation time, not actual true dates... I need the exact dates.

    You're replying to a 5-year-old post, so some things might have changed. Can you attach the file to this thread so we can take a look and offer a possible solution?

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Or upload the file to a reputable file sharing service, such as OneDriveGoogle DriveDropbox, make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.
    • Or if you'd rather your activity remains private, you can send me a private message.

    FWIW, I export all my activities to GPX for archival purposes. I can't remember the last time this wasn't working. Of course, these are not 7-hour hikes.

  • Hi, thanks for looking into this. It did not work yesterday but today it worked! I mean the direct download of GPX file. I was on different networks. Maybe some provider firewall prevented the download... Though other files could be downloaded, like the "split ti CVS" for example (small file)...

    As of the file you wish to examine, do you mean the saved as course one? Anyway, I will see if it happens again in the future and update if necessary.
