Is there any way to get rid of these annoying badges? They might be fine to try to get little kids interested, but they are an annoyance for adults.
To be interested by the badges may be…
Can't you see how unbelievably patronising that is? I don't want badges, I don't want them to be there. This isn't a 'Clash of Clans' mobile game, it's not a scouts award ceremony - it's me, going out…
Adult here. They don't annoy me at all.
Easiest way to get rid of them is to just finish them all. Good luck with that.
After quite short time of runs, you won't be getting any new badges.
Then, there will be available only repeatable badges for marathons (run & bike) and rarely for some global events.
So you get next badges rarely, if at all.
.
But, ok, I would take it as suggesstion to alow more personalisation on Connect. That's ok, why not.

If you don't want to see badges you can block them using web-browser addon like Adblock.
You add rule to custom filters - like: connect.garmin.com##.react-activity-badges
This hides badges on an activity page, if you want to hide some other elements, just check class name and add it to Adblock.
Yes there is! Take your watch, make sure it’s turned on. Place it on a sturdy flat surface upside up, making sure the watch is in an upright position. Now that the watch is ready, go to you tool shed and grab the largest hammer you can find. Go back where you had you watch and in a upright movement ( better with two hands) elevate your hammer and with a downward movement and with all the strength you can conjure, smash you Garmin item with your utmost force. If you watch survives this action you can stomp on it repeatedly while screaming and pulling you hair to the tone of “ I hate badges” ; the more intense you feel that anger the best you will get rid of those pesky badges! Have a nice fit!

To be interested by the badges may be childish, as you tell, but I am afraid that feeling annoyed by the existence of badges to the extent that you have to express your frustration publicly, may signal a more serious trouble than just being childish.
However, if you do not want to receive any notifications about new badges, just turn the notifications for them off, in your settings:
Garmin Conect Mobile Menu » Settings » Notifications » Push Notifications » Badges

I'd also love to know this. There are some I'd like to delete just because they're wildly inaccurate. E.g. I got the "Climber" badge yesterday for doing >500 ft of climb on my bike over an area (which I've ridden many times) that has maybe 8 ft of climb in a mile.
The bagdes only appear at the very beginning of your sporting activities.
If you are no longer a "little kid" and you have done enough sporting activities, all the awards will be used up and they will not appear again. Believe me, it will stop by itself in time.
So don't be a "little kid" and be active, that helps. :)
Can't you see how unbelievably patronising that is? I don't want badges, I don't want them to be there. This isn't a 'Clash of Clans' mobile game, it's not a scouts award ceremony - it's me, going out on a bike and wanting to track my activity. I don't want a totally meaningless badge, thank you very much, and I don't want them to be mandatorily on the system.
Unlike a little kid,
*unlike a little kid, I don't want a badge for going on a run. Your perverse suggestion that it is the failure to have achieved all of the badges - rather than the use of badges in the first place - which constitutes the state of being a 'little kid', is frankly laughable.
