Missing additional running Dynamics/need for Running Dynamics pod?

Hello fellow runners,
I got myself Fenix 5 plus and I am really happy with the purchase. Now I am trying to figure out all running dynamic metrics available on my Garmin connect and mobile app. However, there is a lot talking about Vertical oscillation, ground contact time, Stride length which are not available on my watch or from my watch.
So, am I correct by saying to get all those metrics you need at least Running Dynamics Pod? By the way, I am getting from my Fenix cadence and avg stride length (as a number only) but I guess it is based on solid calculation of my weight and height rather sensor in my watch.
Thanks in advance for clarifying that for me.
  • For running dynamics you need either the HRM-Run or HRM-Tri strap, or the RD pod.
  • In your case I suspect stride length is calculated length from distance travelled (from GPS) divided by cadence (accelerometers in watch) and not from your height and weight. For vertical oscillation, ground contact time, as tmk2 says you need a garmin running HRM strap or a running foot pod.

    Yup.

If you get a running dynamics pod or HRM-RUN, then you get "instant stride length" as a "running dynamic" metric, but I don't think it's very useful imo.

The only "advanced running dynamic metric" that I've found mildly useful is ground contact balance (left foot vs right foot), because any time it was significantly different than 50/50, I knew I was somewhat injured. (But I can already tell when I'm injured...)
