The challenge you mention only counts "Walk" activities, and "Hike" activities do not count as such.
Hello, although there are dedicated hiking watches, still no hiking challenge and still not possible to issue hiking challenges to our contacts.
I find this very disappointing also.
Is this expected someday…
I know this is an old thread, but still valid and unaddressed, especially regarding hiking / floors climbed challenges. This is a very manageable request, Garmin Dev. Additionally, several in my circle are fans of the Expedition badges and would love the feature to challenge each other to climb Denali or Everest.
Yes this section could use some attention for users to get creative. I don't swim, cycle or run, all that's left to challenge is steps which is a bit boring.
You could easily add challenges in time, distance, heartrate, top speed, number of activities (longer than 20min) for all activity types. Even counts for exercises and weights (as the proposed pushup challenge), grades in climbing etc. should be possible.
Garmin "expedition challenges". Nothing virtual or challenging about these, it’s just a by-product of the watch recording steps and floors. No extra effort, or thought, required.
Issue step challenges to your connections or join the weekly step challenge.
You're right, but you miss the nuance of it being related to the Expedition location, plus the details related to step challenges do not exceed 60 days nor calculate floors climbed.
So, if we made a friendly competition to 1) virtually climb Everest or to 2) virtually hike the Appalachian trail, we would not be able to do so because floors climbed is not an option nor is completing a challenge that would take more than five months possible.
The best workaround my friends have considered is to all start the Expedition challenge the same time and each Saturday we send a screen shot of our progress to each other until some declared victory. Cumbersome and not as cool.
Dev could even add the feature into the maps tool and have the Expedition mapped as a course so that we could see our daily progress against each other on the Comnect website or app.
More simply, we have been waiting for more than 5 years for Garmin, the great GPS watch specialist, having developed GPS watches dedicated to hiking, to finally take into account a major GPS activity in the monthly challenges.
There are plenty of challenges that do not use GPS but still do not use hiking.
This is really not very serious from Garmin, the great specialist of GPS watches.
