Smart Notifications default to on with newly installed apps - Please change that

Hello -

In the Garmin Connect app for Android, if I go to Settings, Smart Notifications I notice that any new app installed has Smart Notification enabled. That is a big issue as I routinely install new apps. Please allow this to be set to disabled as default. For instance, I recently changed my email app. An hour later my Garmin watch buzzed as the new app had smart notifications on. I had to go in and disable this. I really don't want to have to do this every time I install a new app. Thank you.

I agree with you that this is the wrong default behavior. Maybe if you had a known whitelist of common messaging apps that the majority of users will want notifications from.

Bumping this. Does anyone from Garmin read these or are we all just talking to ourselves? :p

(While I'm at it, captchas are quite annoying, I'm already logged in why do you need that?)
  • SteveFTC Yes and yes. Garmin does read and occasionally post, but this is essentially a user-to-user forum.
  • I have submitted this idea to Garmin on several occasions, because I wholeheartedly agree. I understand the purpose for the default behavior, as many people don't really mess with settings in their apps and just leave all notifications on always. But it would be nice if they considered the tinkerers and control freaks out there and let us at least have the option to change the default behavior.

Have you tried submitting it to their official feature request portal: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/ No idea how much impact that has, but maybe if they get enough requests for it, they'll fix this.

Yeah, I've submitted it and also mentioned it to them on chat (and they just told me to submit it). I doubt it will ever change. But, at this point, I'm probably going to be selling my watch. I don't like their software and the support is abysmal to boot. Shame, it had potential.
