Training Plan for Football

Hello garmin folks

I got a Garmin watch and heart rate chest strap so I can go run and check my heart rate and also a bit as a motivation to do it more often :-). I play amateur football (soccer) and I would like to improve my fitness. Now we have winter break until next march and my goal is to use this time to work on my fitness. A training plan would be great.

I want to become faster for the sprints and improve my endurance so I have a better fitness for 90 minutes running on the pitch.

I saw that in garmin connect there are some training plans and I'm thinking about doing one of them but there is none specific to football activity. Can you recommend one to me? Or is it possible to upload custom ones that are more specific to football? Also I would like to get more information about how to do running training with the goal to get fitter for the football sport. Can you recommend some literature? I just googled a bit and it looks like interval training is good but what intervall types I should do I do not know.
  • Also I would like to get more information about how to do running training with the goal to get fitter for the football sport.

For it to make sense you need to consult a football coach. No one here will give you any constructive advice, because no one here knows anything about you, like your age, fitness level, playing position, your goal ("getting more fit" is just to vague), what are your weak spots, what are your strong spots, and so on.

Thank you for the response. I think the main goal would be to increase sprint speed and acceleration. This is the weakness I think the running training would help me improve. In football one often changes direction and then sprints for 10 to 40-50 meters. maybe someone has advice on that or even has some experience as football coach. My age is 30 the fitness level is hard to say the connect portal says that the VO2 max is 52 but I'm not sure the calculation is correct. Sometimes the heart rate measurement from the chest strap seems to be inaccurate.
