allow to Merge Laps

Hi,
I have a simple suggestion for the garmin connect.
Please allow to Merge Laps.
Sometimes laps are incorrect.. since user clicked twice on lap button or whatever...
It will be helpful if would be possible to select two close laps and merge them so the distance and time is combined and you will calculate the speed and other factors for the new lap.

In the same way you can also allow to split a lap into two.

Why is this helpful?

I have:

lap 2 ....
lap 3: 04:45 minutes
lap 4: 00:16 minutes
lap 5....

I want to be able to convert it to:

lap 2: ...
lap 3: 05:01 minutes
lap 4: ...

This will be a widely used functionality! Please implement this. It shouldn't be hard.

I believe the Strava website allows you to do that and the Fit File Repair Tool definitely allows you to merge laps.

I don't have Strava and Garmin can't assume that their customer owns a Strava account.
The fact that 3rd party service providers allow such functionally makes my case stronger.

This should be implemented with-in the domain of Garmin Connect.

I highly doubt that Garmin will implement such functionality, we would probably have seen it already if they were going to.

There are a number of sites out there that don't require you to have accounts like Strava do - Google will be your friend.

And this site is primarily peer-to-peer assistance - suggestions should be sent directly to Garmin here.

    cheers
    Mike

I don't think Garmin is assuming anything. You're the one assuming that the functionality ought to be provided to Garmin customers and/or someone like yourself.

The fact that 3rd party service providers allow such functionally makes my case stronger.
What case? You have not established any obligation on Garmin's part to fulfil your 'requirement' to merge laps.

This is a feature request forum.
My request is a feature request.

The fact that you sending me to 3rd party service providers doesn't solve the issue.

The fact that there are 3rd party services that offer feature such as this implies that there is demand for it other than my request.

Garmin should consider this - if they are even read something posted here.
  • I totally agree. I fudge laps a lot, why can't we merge them in Garmin Connect?

  • This is a feature request forum.

Well, it is an old post, but just to make it stright - this is not a feature request forum. It is a user forum for the mutual help. For requesting features, use rather the form Submitting an Idea to Garmin, since it is highly unlikely anyone from Garmin would spot your request here.

  • I just noticed, Garmin Connect has a partial solution built in.  If you edit your activity and hit "edit intervals," change the surrounding laps to "recovery" and leave the two adjacent laps as "run,"  this will merge the data of the two adjacent laps as you view it under the "intervals" tab, like this:

    Before

    Lap 1      1:45.5  .26    (run)

    Lap 2      1:35.5  .08    (rest)

    Lap 3      1:47.7  .26    (run)

    Lap 4      1:50.2  .09    (rest)

    Lap 5      1:21.3  .20    (run)

    Lap 6      0:32.7  .08    (run)

    Lap 7      1:07.2  .06   (rest)

    After

    Interval 1  Run            1:45.5   .26

                     Recovery   1:35.5   .08

    Interval 2  Run            1:47.7   .26

                     Recovery   1:50.2   .09

    Interval 3  Run 5-6      1:54.1   .28

                     Recovery   1:07.2   .06

This only works if you are lapping your recovery/ rest times.

  • I fudge laps a lot

If you do it a lot and it's important to you, it is an easy fix using something like Fit File Repair Tool

  • Having the ability to remove lap markers before saving a run to the watch is such a no brainer. Frustrating that it can't be done with a couple of button pushes, and our bad lap data shall persist forever and ever... not to forget that it then echo's out to other services too, such as Strava.
