Calorie burn for running seems off with Forerunner 35

I had a Forerunner 15 for several years, and calorie burn (per mile) was always about the same for walking or running - roughly 100 calories per mile. I recently upgraded to a Forerunner 35, and now my runs are showing only about 75 calories burned per mile, but walking is still at around 100. For example, a 4 mile run (10 minutes per mile) shows about 300 calories burned, while a 4 mile walk (15 minutes per mile) supposedly burns 400 calories. This makes no sense to me. Is there possibly a setting on the new watch that I need to change?
  • Same here...i just ran 1km and it said 72 calories burned, but next 1km i walked, but it said i burned 100 calories!!

Could you post the heart rate graphs of both activities?

  • And the walk for comparison? You better post just the links to the concerned activities (after making them visible to Everyone - see the padlock symbol up right on the Activity page).

  • And there is thius one:

WHY are Garmin LIERALLY Ignoring everyone who owns the Forerunner 35 with this problem??
I was going to get the Forerunner 45 next as i'm on a budget and like to be loyal to brands...I had the forerunner 20 x 3 of them about 4 Forerunner 15s and a couple of the Forerunner 25s...but this 35 is simply MASDSIVELY not accurate in any way!
Will Garmin chime in and suggest anything, nope, I've googled for weeks, loads posting same type of probs as me...never get replies.
    Please help someone.

  • Will Garmin chime in and suggest anythin

This is a user forum, hence it is unlikely Garmin would chime in. If you want that we help you, follow the instructions and post the links to a Run and a Walk acttivity, so that we can have a look. Calories are calculated on the basis of the Heart Rate, using also Heart Rate Variability, and average Resting Heart Rate for given day, so if you see the Calories you get, there is likely a reason for that. However, without seeing the data, we cannot help you much.

  • BTW, your Run was 5 minutes long and you burned 73 kcal. The Walk was 40 minutes long and you burned 398 kcal. It means ~50 kcal in 5 minutes during the walk vs. 73 kcal during the run. Seems credible to me.
