Fenix 5s suddenly not reconnecting with phone

Fenix 5s 2017 model, Android 7.0, Garmin Connect latest version.
If i leave my phone and come back to it the watch has suddenly stopped reconnecting with Garmin Connect. The only way to reconnect it is to reboot my phone. Rebooting the watch doesn't work. This used to happen when I first got it (June 2017) but a watch update fixed it but it has now restarted with the problem.
Grateful for any advice.
