Timing of Reported Temperature in Garmin Connect

When I run with my Garmin 645 Music and the activity is uploaded to Garmin Connect, the map of the route also shows the temperature, wind speed and direction. My question is - what is the timing of that temperature. Is it from the beginning of the run, the average for the run, or the end of the run. For a short run it doesn't matter, but for a 3 hour run I'd like to know at what point that temperature applies. I know this isn't a temperature generated from the watch - it's based on the GPS coordinates uploaded to Garmin Connect.

Thanks,
Mike
  • My guess would be the start of the activity. However, you can always just test it by using your watch to record an activity start at (say) 6AM, then stop it at noon, on a day you don't need your watch for recording real workout activities, then compare the recorded temperature with what you know to be the temperatures at different times that day. (You could even just check at 12:05PM, shortly after you uploaded the completed/saved activity record, and see whether the temperature in the corner of the map corresponds to the current temperature.)
  • Your are probably right that it is the start of the activity. Good suggestions on testing. Before and after my next long run I will do a short activity to see what Garmin uses for that time and then another activity after my long run - to see what Garmin has for a temperature at the time. If my long run temperature matches the short dummy activity immediately before my run I'll be able to confirm that it is the start of run temperature that is reported.
